Thank you! Dr. Aceves and his team are wonderful. Truly.

Oakley and Blue... and Amanda... it will be so awesome to have you all on the sidelines when I am there!

Amanda... I really can't tell you how much this has eased my mind... the 1st is right around the corner and I the excitement mixed with fear is a little overwhelming at times. I am completely at ease with Dr. Aceves but it makes it so much more "real" to watch someone as they actually go through the process!

Did you get your drain taken out yet???? Oh... one more thing... please tell me I won't wake up with a catheter in? I can tinkle on my own thank you very much. :)

Amanda I am so glad you are doing so well. I have loved your posts and have brought a smile and a giggle to me more than once today! Loved the Smurf and Buffet comments. What has everyone thought of you taking pictures? That will hopefully be me!

My drain was removed today. Like most people report. It was quite an unusual sensation. Unpleasant but not painful.

No catheter. I peed in a bed pan while in recovery. Kinda made a lil mess. They cleaned it all up in my room.

Everyone was very attentive. Some language barrier with the nurses but we all managed to work around it.

Took a very long, and hot, walk to the mall today. Totally kicked my butt! Heading back home tomorrow. I'm missing my family.

Thanks Amanda .... as a nurse... I have never seen a drain like the one they use... at least not here in the states.... or the use of a colostomy bag for drainage collection. It just gave me a little freak moment when I saw pictures on another persons blog. I know that will be the one thing I want out as soon as possible... even if it means I have to drink smurf punch and a barium cocktail!

Whew... so glad there is no catheter! I think I'd rather pee myself than have one!

I am really lucky that the friend that is coming with me speaks Spanish fluently. I'm sure that will make things much easier in the communication department.

So glad you are doing so well and looking forward to hearing all about your first couple of weeks post-op!

The colostomy style bag actually got in the way a lot less than the drain bulb I had for gall bladder several years ago. Although I was just as happy to get rid of both of them! Good riddance to the drain.

The worst part of my experience was the nausea and vomiting. I expected it, as anesthesia affects me that way, but it sucked. My back hurts. No pain meds since actual surgery day.

I am slowly grasping the "Art of Sipping". And burping. And tooting. ;-)

Oh Amanda... sorry about the nausea... I am really worried about that too as I have the same reaction to anesthesia. I would rather have pain that nausea! I heaved for hours and hours after being banded. I also have to talk to them about the fact that they had a hard time with me after my last surgery... had to keep reminding me to breath. Once I was fully awake and heaving... voila... no more breathing problems...lol.

I hope you do get a little sun glow to take home with you! I am am one pale chick... it would take a lot of sun to change my color to anything but red!

The sipping and burping thing might be easier for me too since I often have to do that with my band. I am fairly accomplished at tooting as well...hehehehe.

I am happy and positive. I'm glad to have been able share everyone's journey and my journey with everyone! It's a positive experience.

Btw, I do get hunger pangs but the actual thought of eating? Blech!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
