What if you can't do dairy for post op?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking through a lot of sleevers' post op diets and seeing that dairy products, such as whey Protein, yogurt, cotttage cheese, cheese strings, milk, etc... seem to make up the bulk of the diet. I can do a tiny bit of dairy, but living off of it like that would make me absolutely ill (I'm dairy sensitive, but not allergic... seems to affect my joints/achiness badly if I have too much). I know I can do all kinds of meats, but is there a reason people seem to lean towards the dairy post op? Do meats just not go down well, but the softer dairy products do? I'm just trying to plan ahead, but am worried that the dairy load would be too much!

Most of us do dairy because of the whey Protein. It is one of the very best types of protein out there. The good news it, there are lactose free whey Proteins, and their are lactose free ways, even vegan ways to get your protein in. One of my go to pre mixed shakes is 100% lactose free, but still has 30g protein. It's called Rockin Refuel Muscle builder, ti's made by shamrock, only comes in chocolate, is 190 calories. There are powders out there also, I jsut wanted to give you an example, but there are tons more. You will just have to look for them. I personally don't do much dairy, I feel like the calories are high for the protein trade off. It is possible to do this without lactose. Also, the Isopure drinks are lactose free. You'll find you're groove ;) Best of luck!

I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and can't do dairy either. I do muscle milk the non dairy cans. They can be pricy at 3-4 a can but it is worth it. The cans come in all kinds of flavors and have like 30 grams of Protein. It has been a life saver for me. I also like the pure protein brand.

I am also on the Pre-op diet. I am trying to find a Protein shake/powder that doesn't upset my stomach because of my dairy sensitivity. Lactose free muscle milk is good but, yes, is pricey ($7-$8 for 4 shakes). Any other suggestions I can try before my surgery? I also don't want to have to but a jug of powder but rather a packet I can try before investing.

Whey Protein isolate is by definition lactose free. It is just the protein pulled from whey.
