carrie43 15 Posted March 17, 2013 Hi everyone. I was sleeved on March 7 and was wondering if its too soon to be working out. I know we are supposed to be walking, and I do try my best to get it in and having 2 small kids keeps me going. But how much walking are we supposed to be doing? Is it to early to get back to the gym? Would love to hear what everyone is doing.
Iniysa 157 Posted March 17, 2013 From what I have gathered so far, most doctors don't want you to do in hard workouts until four weeks after surgery. You should call your doc and ask before going to the gym to do anything but walk on the treadmill. Walking however should be fine. From what I gather, you can't walk enough. But again, make sure you run it all by your doctors office before doing anything you're not sure about. Good luck!
FishingNurse 1,211 Posted March 17, 2013 I agree. Listen to your body. I see no harm in walking on a treadmill! Good for you- so motivated! :-)
diannepj1960 28 Posted March 17, 2013 Just remember When you do start exercising please increase your meals, because if you are burning calories and you are not eating and drinking you will cause your weight to stall i had to learn so i set my timer every two hours to make sure i eat, even tho i am not hungry, and it's working now i see the scale moving again

amytug 996 Posted March 17, 2013 I walked around the block esterday, 13 days out. Also did a few lunges and a couple simple arm exercises to keep from turning I complete flub. I seriously felt like I was gonna die. Way overdid it and it was actually the walk that did me in. If you feel great, I can't see how light walking could hurt. I'd wait, personally. keystone28 18 Posted March 17, 2013 My doctor told me walking only, 30 minutes a day. If you cant do the 30 all at once, split it up into 3 10 minute sessions. I would advise against working out. I had initially asked my Doctor if I could go back to work after 3 weeks, and it was stressed to me that the chances of pulling the staples/sutures is rather high if you participate in regular work or exercis aside from walking, which can end up with you back in the hospital. Joe I 180 Posted March 17, 2013 I was walking a couple of hours after surgery on March 4th, I walked around the block first day home. Two miles around the neighborhood two days later. The weather turned bad so I went to my gym and tried walking on a treadmill, I hate the treadmill, so I jumped on an elliptical and went for 35 minutes and have been going every day since, 45 to 60 minutes fairly hard HR around 150. I worked out hard before the procedure figuring I'd have a head start after I had it. So far so good...

carrie43 15 Posted March 19, 2013 Went to my surgeon today for my 2 week follow up . He said it was fine to get back to the gym. No restrictions. I can use weights, do crunches, swim, etc. he told me to be careful and make sure I listen to my body. If I get too tired to stop.
