Question Re: Flax Seed Oil and Hair Vitamins

Recommended Posts

Hi All -

I am extremely concerned and want to be proactive about my Hair loss. If I do say so myself (smile), I have a gorgeous head of hair, and I am okay iwth the fact that it may fall out after I am banded. I have a few questions for you.

1. Do any of you take flax seed oil? I'm not much of a meat eater, so the flax seed oil gives me essential fatty acids and Omega-3s. I believe the flax seed oil makes my hair glossier, and my nails stronger. My skin also glows with it. I only take 1 Tablespoon per day. Think there is any harm in continuing the flax seed oil post banding?

2. I was talking to a girlfriend (who happens to be a beautician) about hair Vitamins and she recommended Hairtopia vitamins. Does anyone take any kind of hair vitamins at all? My only question is wondering if I can pass them through my band. I haven't seen them so I don't know how big they are. Maybe I could crush them into applesauce or something?

Just curious to know what others are doing, if anything, to care for their hair from the inside out.

Thanks!

Nathalie

Hair is dead cells so there's really nothing that bring "life" to what is already dead. Flaxseed oil is healthy and of course you can take it post banding. You should also take a Multi-Vitamin and a B-Complex. You'll likley have to schedule an appt. with a dietician pre-op so take that opportunity to ask him/her questions. Also, if you can bring a copy of your bloodwork results to the appt., it will greatly assist in planning your meals post-op.

Flaxseed oil is excellent for all lapbanders...good for th eheart, arteries, haie, skin, etc. Biotin isd good for hair and all the B viatmins...do not use vit. for hair. Also use folic acid, especially if you do not eat meat... very important for heart health and if a young woman for the possibility of getting pregnant in the future.

I think flax seed oil is a miracle product. The experts say you get better Omega balance with fish oil but when I take flax seed oil regularly, like you say, my hair, skin and nails glow. I just take it by the spoonful, I like the taste of it.

I know hair is dead but I think its the improvement in the oils your scalp produces that gives you hair so much shine when you're taking it. Normally I'd a dried up old prune - I even have an eye disorder that's related to severely dry corneas, and that's why I take it but it improves everything for me

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
