Wow...don't know about you but Rosehips scared me straight!! I didn't think you'd be hungry so soon post op. Geez...I'm quite concerned how I'll do just one week pre-op on a liquid diet. I don't even know if I should consider doing this now??? :(

I hope you can get thru this difficult time. I'll be thinking of you!

From my experience, most of us are not hungry after surgery. For me I was nauseous after all bites of food so food was not a comfort, I was not hungry & before the surgery I knew I was saying bye bye to food overall.

The other thing that helped me was a one month required preop diet. It was not just liquids but it was a diet from my doc. I hated the diet but he makes everyone do it so the liver shrinks and then he has an easier field to work in. If he had not "taken" my food away for that month I know I would have been flipping out for food. But I was already divorced from it. Good for you for reviewing if you are ready. Only you know. I wish you the best

I SUGGEST you type COMPLICATIONS in to the search box & read real life accounts of people's misery & near death experiences. People can get a leak in the staple areas without eating in the first 3 weeks. Your head seems to be telling you to ignore the chances of a leak for some momentary satisfaction.

When I had my surgery I was on a 3 week post liquid diet. All food had to be dripping off the spoon' date=' then I went to purred food.< /p>

The sugar free popscycles r a good idea. Jello, sugar free pudding doesn't drip off the spoon but it is real soft.

A lot of us don't enjoy the shakes but you are only drinking what? 4 oz at a time? And you are going to loose a lot of weight this month if you comply. Then again if you eat something that causes a leak YOU WILL LOOSE A TON OF WEIGHT CAUSE YOU WILL BE VERY SICK FOR ABOUT 2 months, more if you are unlucky. You will be away from your child for weeks as you are struggling in the hospital to live. Just read the complication stories.

If I sound harsh & mean to you it is because I care, yes you are a stranger but you are a fellow large person who wants a better life. Follow the rules, I am ecstatic with the results I am getting, you will be too.[/quote']

Thanks. I know it's head hunger. It's just really hard emotionally sometimes. That's for the reality check.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
