1--There was no Wikipedia info on the band in 2002. (Duh.)

2--Most of the major problems that have been discovered with the band are happening a couple of years out...and since the band had been legal here for only a year, there WAS NO DATA AVAILABLE. (I hate to see you struggling like this...why do you suppose this is so challenging for you?)

I'm so sad that you cannot tell I am complete messing with you. I guess your screenname should be taken a bit more literally. I suppose that's my fault.

If you're ever unfortunate enough to lose your band, I hope someone has the integrity to not throw it in your face.

If stopping the bickering isn't an option, then at least take it to Rants & Raves. This is not the place for it.

She didn't lose her band, she knows exactly where it is...in a bag in her house, just like she mentioned in an ealier post.

Do you really think that's what I meant?

This discussion changes nothing. The nastiness ends right now, or the thread is locked.

Of course I did not really think that's what you meant, but thank you for insulting my intelligence.

I hope your cyber threat is not only directed at me. That sure would hurt my feelings =(

Any regrets? None. But of course there are those who have them. Not surprising, the band isn't the right choice for everyone going in, and down the line there's a definite possibility of problems. Just like every other weight loss surgery.

Sharing personal stories is all we do here, and every single one is important...and worthy of respect. Let's keep it that way.

As to the original posters question, I have absolutely no regrets. This has been the best thing that has ever happened to me and I feel better than I have felt in years. Do I pb, yes, sometimes. Do I get the golfball feeling, yes, sometimes. But it is always my fault for not paying attention and following the bandster rules. I am aware there are possible complications with this surgery. I have had one already, when my port flipped. If I encounter additional ones down the road, I will deal with them then. I am not going to spend every day of my life wondering if I have stretched my pouch, has my band slipped, etc., etc. You can drive yourself crazy doing that. Just live your life and what happens will happen. There are possible complications with all WLS, you just have to decide which one is best for you.

To the OP;

No regrets 20 months later and 174lbs lighter (under goal weight at 123lbs with a BMI of 21)

Like any WLS or diet, the band is work, but well worth the effort.

I only regret waiting an extra year or two, postponing what is the best decision I have ever made and the best money I have ever spent ($15K self pay). You have such a tremendous opportunity being approved for insurance coverage. GO FOR IT, but be aware, the band is only a tool. You have to do your part to make it all work and it will involve significant effort to eat smart and change move away from bad eating decisions. The band will help you, physically and psychologically, in the journey, but in the end, you will be the one to decide how successful you will be. A colleague of mine said in explaining his decision to be banded, "I need something to protect me from ME". Good luck and be sure to visit LBT often for advice and insight.

Absolutely no regrets.

I had to get a complete unfill today because I'm having rotator cuff surgery tomorrow. I went from having 2cc in a 4cc band to nothing in my band and within an hour I was so incredibly hungry! I hadn't felt hunger like that since before I was banded.

DH and I then went out to lunch. I ate a pre-banded portion of quesadillos before I felt "satisfied". Because of today's experience I have a renewed appreciation for my band and will get a fill just as soon as I can.

Keep prodding the moderator, why don't you? That's a fast track to getting banned.:deadhorse:

GeezerSue wasn't the only person making inappropriate remarks, so it really burns me when people start pretending like there is only one person in a fight. To have a fight, there are ALWAYS at least two people participating. Like Sue said, if you hate her remarks so much, put her on ignore. It isn't hard. If you don't know how, ask. There will be plenty of people to tell you how.

And I'll speak for the people who actually like having Sue around. It is nice to get more than one opinion on something. I like having the people around who had to get their bands removed. If there were only people who had working bands, this wouldn't be much of a support forum for the people having problems, would it? And yeah, you should hear worst-case scenarios before you go to have surgery. Smart people weigh the risks before having major surgery. And whether you like it or not, Sue's experience is a risk that people should take into account.

I haven't been banded yet, but when I am, I will know that this takes effort. You can't just expect your band to do all the work. And, thanks to Sue and people like her, I'll know what to be looking for if something does go wrong.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
