how many pounds at 5 weeks?

Recommended Posts

I'm getting sleeved Monday the 18th and have a business trip April 23rd. I'm trying to figure out what to expect in terms of weight loss by then. I'd love to hear from all the veterans about how much you lost those first 5 weeks...thanks!

I was sleeved on February 11 and have lost 18 pounds since surgery. I thought I would have lost more by now but what I've learned from this forum is everyone is different. Good luck on Monday :-)

Your on the lower part of scale, so maybe not as fast as others. I was down about 25 # at 5 weeks. I am 9 weeks now and down about 5 more #. It's slow now. I am losing only 1 - 1/2# a week. Just depends.

I am 40 days out. My stats are: HW 257, SW 241, CW 219. I am 5'2". So 22 pounds since surgery. Down one size in my clothes and getting pretty close to being down the second size. My bra size before surgery was 44DDD, today went and bought a 42DD. I am losing pretty uniformly all over but I had gained all over so that is a good thing. Another girl in my office had the bypass and she is losing on the top first which she hates as she is bottom heavy. Hope this helps.

I lost 10 lbs pre op, 22 lbs the first month after surgery and 12 lbs the second month, so that would be 3 lbs per week the 2nd month. So, by 5 weeks post op I had 25 lbs off....35 lbs total including the pre op. Yes, it depends how heavy you were to start, some lose faster than others as well. It's very disheartening sometimes to compare, and it's our biggest evil many times in our journey. We are all 'individuals'. Good luck to you :-)

I'm doing well. I was discharged from the hosp yesterday afternoon. Threw up once the first night which was very painful. I was trying to take my pain meds and they wouldn't stay down. My surgery cuts don't really hurt much. The most uncomfortable thing is the bloating in my intestines. I took a gas x strip which helped a tiny bit. But then last night my intestines started grumbling (like they turned back on) and I feel much better. Today I got up and took a shower and feel a little more human again. No pain meds yet today...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
