I'm almost 3 weeks post op and have come down sick with a chest cold. The coughing is killing me. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can take for it?

Also, is it possible to cause light spotting of blood from coughing so hard? I haven't had a period in over ten years!

I have never heard of coughing causing vaginal spotting. Were you not getting periods due to your weight? It is only 3 weeks but it is possible that you might start getting them since you have lost weight. I would for sure call your Dr. but consider that taking things like Mucinex without being able to take in a lot of fluids could possibly make things even worse right now.

How old are you? if you're post menopausal spotting is not a good sign. It's best to get it checked right away. Request an endometrial biopsy. Hopefully it's sx related but I can't see why. Best wishes!!

Don't want to alarm you, but get to a gynecologist who will give you a transvaginal sonogram to check the thickness of the endometrium and other things AS SOON AS THIS WEEK. Don't let any MD tell you it is nothing and want to gove you birth control pills. I did not have a period for 7 years and one day I thought I saw a very little stain. (Note obesity is a risk factor for endometrial malignancy because we have more estrogen in fat cells. I thought my life was over. It wasn't. I had very early stage and had a complete hysterectomy - no other treatments. You probably don't have a big problem, but staining after menopause is unnacceptable. I know learn that I have 4 other friends with the same diagnosis and all are well - IF YOU CHECK IT OUT ASAP. Do mot wait. Do this first before anything else. Then go on with your life. Fran Drescher of THE NANNY fame had this and her book is called CANCER SCHMANSER - pick up a copy. Interested to see what happens with you.

Incidentally, sometimes things are caught medically from totally unrelated conditions - like coughing . You may have put pressure on a possible fibroid - who knows - just promise you'll check it put.

Now I'm scared. I'm post menopausal. I'm 54 y/o. I thought it was just stress from the surgery and going back to work this week and on top of that catching this miserable cold. Now I'm scared.

It could also possibly be the blood thinners they give you in the post op phase. It seems that people who haven't had periods in ages get theirs soon after surgery. I wonder if it's not bleeding due to the blood thinners. I'm pre op but just my educated response.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
