On the plane to San Diego!

Recommended Posts

Well folks' date=' I had my surgery. My first question when I woke up was was the surgery over. When he told me yes, my next thought was damn, I was going to change my mind!

But all went well. The first night was HELL! Not sure that I was fully prepared for how much pain I would be in. It was the longest night of my life. So don't plan to sleep much that first night. The nurses kept me with pain meds though. The biggest problem is finding a comfortable position to sleep with that damn drain. I prefer to sleep on my sides and it's impossible to do with that drain pulling on you. I didn't have much gas pain until the first day at the hotel. Walking definitely helped. Now I'm just a little sore from the incisions. Everyone at the hospital was great. Dr. Luna has an amazing bedside manner, and he isn't bad to look at either. Melissa is super sweet, as is Rosie. The hospital was clean and safe, but don't expect Cedars Sinai. It's not the Ritz, but it gets the job done. The Marriott was nice and also safe. The staff at the hotel is wonderful, although it took forever for our room to be ready. By day two at the hotel, I felt good enough to do some BRIEF shopping. We took a cab to Revolution and walked around for about an hour to get souvenirs. After that I was pretty tired, so we came back to the hotel for broth. It was ok, but not as great as everyone makes it out to be. I think people are just so excited to eat, that they think it's that awesome. I'm so not looking forward to the long flight back today, but I am very ready to get home![/quote']

Yes...Dr. Luna...oh la la...Just a suggestion if u hvnt already. Be sure to read your discharge summary report in the folder they gave you to be sure the dates and everything is correct. Mine was not and I'm struggling to get the summary fixed an emailed to me... Then they accidentally sent me another person's summary instead with the same first name. Just a heads up. Oh and the broth at the Hotel gave me diarrhea! Lol Have a safe flight! I had a major freezing frenzy & since there are no blankets on the plane the stewardess warmed up a large plastic bottle with a hot hot Water in it and I hugged it for 4 hrs- it saved me! I was literally shaking for the first 30 minutes on the plane because of being cold. Best of luck!

GROOVY!! You are through the worst part!! Sorry you had such a bad first night. It just goes to show how everyone truly has different reactions. The drains didn't bother me at all and I'm and side sleeper, as well. So glad your surgery was smooth, Keep on walking and have a safe flight home. Like you, I soooooo dreaded that long flight back to Atlanta.

In regards to freezing... a gal suggested I take the warming Patches for sore muscles and the handwarmers that you squeeze and they stay warm for quite awhile... I already have them in my bag!

Isn't Mexico warm / the desert?!? Lol I'm going to google temps in may

It was actually chilly when I was there but they said it was a cold spell. Reminded me of home in Orlando with the fluctuations. it was the plane ride that did me in! I too upgraded to 1st class & they still had no blankets! Guess my body was in freakout mode but I was 3 days postop from major surgery. Best wishes on ur long flight home!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
