Anyone from Connecticut?

Recommended Posts

Looking around I feel like I'm the only one in CT doing this. Anyone from CT? Not sure if that's too personal of a question just looking to relate more to my area docs and facilities.

How was the surgery? I'm nervous but ready if that makes sense. Hated that ketosis diet and not looking forward to the preop one either. Did you stay in the hospital. They told me two days minimum.

Surgery went very well...I was only in the OR for 45 min. The anesthesia made me extremely sick and the gas was awful. The day after was the worst by far! Best thing to to though is get up and walk walk walk! Def felt better when walking just got tired easy! I was done on a Thursday and came home on Saturday. Good luck to everyone!!

Did they have to intubate you? Did you need drains?

Everyone under general anesthesia gets intubated but I have no memory of it....and no I didn't have any drains but I didn't bleed a lot either...most ppl do have drains.

Ok cool I wasnt sure because of the time involved if they would have to intubate or not. Drains made me a bit nervous but hey we shall cross that bridge when I get to it right? How was the preop diet? Some people say its tough although I thought the ketosis diet was terrible enough so I figure that was the hardest part.

I didn't have to do the ketosis diet but I have done it before and my pre op diet was basically the same thing...it was def hard but I followed it to a T bc the reap purpose of it is to shrink your liver which puts you at less risk for your liver to bleed. The dr can clearly tell if you follow it too. My Dr told me bc I followed it so well and everything else that my sleeve was one of the best he's ever done!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
