From a previous post a long time ago here, I suspect pork in Australia and pork in the USA are two different things. I mean a big leg of roast pork with crackling is fatty but do you have all the cuts like butterfly stakes and loin steaks etc? Pork is advertised as "the other white meat" here, and its a very lean, very nice meat, a great choice for healthy meals.

Australian meat is quite lean alltogether though, I wouldnt hesitate to eat red meat and call it part of a healthy low fat meal, its just not a food you should eat heaps and heaps of.

How about shrimp, crab, fish, eggs, turkey? These meats can all be prepared in healthy ways and have great Protein. I am not much of a "meat eater" myself so I struggle for ideas too, A LOT!

You sound like you are trying to eat in a similar way as myself. Balanced meals that include complex carbs and veggies. My doc has all of his patients read and follow the "Eating for Life" book. The book comes with tons of recipes but you can get a sneak peek of some of their recipes at this link. It may be a good book for you to have too, lots of ideas in there! Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
