Starting out in a "stall"... has anyone else experienced this?

Recommended Posts

Let me start by saying... I am not expecting weight to fall off of me. I will patiently wait...but I am somewhat concerned... My surgery was 2/28/13 and I have lost 20 lbs, however, most of it was from the 3 day pre op diet. I only lost 7 lbs within 4 days post op and have not lost an ounce since then...10 DAYS!!!! nothing!!! I am doing everything I am suppose to be doing. getting my Protein, Water and walking in. I just need to hear that others have been thru this and started losing. I am beginning to really worry, only because I have not started losing...Just came out of the gate in a STALL...i guess... help!!!

The weight will come off. I've been through at least 3 stalls that lasted around 7 days in my 11 weeks since surgery. I bugs the crap out of me every time.

But suddenly, I'll wake up the next morning and be 1 or 2 lbs lighter. The weight loss is not steady or continuous, but it does come off. Hang in there.

Keep pimpin your sleeve!

Right after surgery you tend to retain fluids from the surgery and swelling, etc. I was actually up 1 pound 1 week after surgery but then lost 12 pounds in 1 week. I was also sleeved the 28th and am at 20 pounds. I was worried the first week when some people were really losing but I feel much better now. I think any loss is a good loss as long as it does not ever come back.

I completely understand, my surgery was March 5-just 10 days ago and I have lost 12 pounds. I am very happy about that number. What is freaking me out is that I lost all of it in the first 5 days- the scale hasn't moved in 5 days. I am getting all my Fluid, Protein, walking in and am eating less than 600 calories every day. How can the scale NOT move? I am scared that the sleeve is not going to work for me. I am afraid I went through all of this and I am still going to be fat :(

Yep been there. I didn't lose any weight during week 2. I weighted in on week 3 and wha la I lost 4.5lbs. I also had a 3 week pre op diet and lost 17lbs on it. I think by having a little longer pre op diet then some we stall sooner then most. Just keep doing what you're doing it will come off. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
