Climbing Stairs a Day After Surgery?

Recommended Posts

My family lives in a condo on the second story of the building. No elevator, just stairs. I walked up a couple of stairs (we lived elsewhere) after the birth of my son, who was born via c-section. Should I be worried about having to climb a flight of stairs the day or two days after I'm sleeved? Like, is it painful and/or hard to do that soon after having your stomach cut out? I was fine after my c-section and the incision was much lower on my abdomen, so I figure I'd be ok with the sleeve/stairs thing. Just wanted to see how your experiences went. Thanks! :)

I was fine with stairs. My house is multilevel, but... Everyone is different after this surgery.

My surgeon doesn't place limitations on stairs when you get home. You just have to be very careful and take the stairs slowly of course, because a fall at this point would not be good (not good anytime, but you don't want to rip out any stitches, etc.).

In my jome I have stairs to get in the front door. And stairs either up or down to get to one of the bathrooms. The stairs haven't been problematic for me but I have been taking a bit slower so I don't get run over by one of my dogs.

Yeah, I have two flights of stairs ... no problem. Just take it easy, one step at a time and you'll be fine.

I live on the 2nd floor and it wasn't a problem at all. You'll be fine.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
