Ok, I'm going to be honest here.

Everyone says the worst part of this whole process is the pre-op diet. I could not DISAGREE more!

I am convinced the WORST PART is our own mind pre-op. Human nature can't help but think about the worst case. I mean were most of us not raised to "Prepare for the worst but hope for the best?"

It is so normal to think that way. I will tell you though, not long after you wake up in recovery and get over that initial WTF have I done to myself! (and you probably will) you will feel SO relieved that it's over. You will then focus on your recovery because at that point, well, it's done so you have no choice. Every hour that passes you will probably be more and more relieved that you are finally on the other side and you can look forward to your incredible journey.

It is true that sometimes our minds can be our own worst enemy.

My little pea brain kind of likens it to the Colonoscopy. The THOUGHT about the prep is way worse then the prep itself, much less the procedure. Again, my mind makes it worse than it is.

Wishing you the best of luck and the speediest of recoveries. I am 9 days out now and boy, life is getting good! :)

My surgery is on the 19th also and I am afraid Im not going to find the right foods to eat at any stage. I dont like the lost feelings I am having. I have this thought that I will be on liquids forever. Im sure its a silly thing to think, I just feel lost.

I am my own enemy in my mind when it comes to a lot of this... Now Im not at the point where i have a definite date yet because I still have to "get through" a psych eval today and a EGD next wed., and I say "get through" because though at this point i am not worried so much about the process of those 2 test, I am scared half to death of the result... especially the EGD... I just want all to be well so I can get a definite date... Then, I keep telling myself this... and you may not want to hear this part, but worst case scenario if I dont make it, I wont know!!!! i will only know before that I was doing something to change my life for the better...

hope that helps...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
