hi...everyone i am offically sleeved by dr alvarez.

I am going to give you a little details before i forget them

I met rosie the van driver in san antonio, tx for the the ride to the us side eagle pass for the evening the ride was just about 2.5 and I was the only pax, i did see one couple come back in so they must have been staying the night for their flight the next day. (laquinta inn airport san antonio) at any rate rosie had to do something for a few minutes and I waited for 15 minutes and then we were off to the holiday inn express on the us side in eagle pass. I had a good time talking to rosie and she told me all about her city in mexico since i was interested it was a pleasant ride. In eagle pass there is a casino its the only one in texas so once i was checked in i grabbed the shuttle (you have to call but its free) and went over for a couple hours to kill time and was able to meet my sleeve buddy there a bit later, i rode back to the hotel with her and her mom.

The next morning at 720, the shuttle (rosie) picked up the three sleevers and two companions for the very short ride to piegra negara, Mx (sp) it was short and were were meeting dr alvarez at his office at 740 ish.Jessica comes out first to get our paperwork and checks and ask who wants to go first. I volunteered and then went over my health history and questions with dr alvarez he asked if I wanted him to call my husband after the surgery and I did.

Jessica took me to take some pictures, weight, and to my room to get settled. The hospital is dated but sufficent it reminds me of the VA in temple, tx.

About a half hour later I was pacing the room and dr rosales came and intro duced himself as he would BA assisting. I like them both.

Then Jessica comes to get me for a chest x ray and turns me over to the lab guy/gal to get blood draw, i hate needles and did not barely feel it. Then that lab guy brings me to my room again and I was visted by the "sleep dr" and I asked for something to relax he comes back about ten mintes later, after my iv was paced (very quicklu ) and give me a relaxer in the iv, and a gurney rolled me off. I do not remember anything else until i woke up in my room I asked for pain meds and was in and out of sleep all after noon. I haven walked to much and did not have a drain or cather (sp)

I have been in and out all day resting and groggy. Had about five different meds put in iv two pain kinds, one for nausea ect. the nurses mostly speak spanish and know a few works but jessica and jesus are english one works day/ one nights. the hosptial is dated but sufficent and i am comfortable. The iv was quick, the sleep dr had me comfortable before i left the room and i remember nothing until waking up in my room in a bit of pain since then they have given me somthing every 3-4 hours. I used a bed pain at first then was able to get to the bathroom on my own. Dr alvarez did call my husband after surgery to let him know i was ok, i was to tired to make a call.I have been awake all night but they said they prefer that first night to be like that so we can tell them how we are feeling. tommorrow they will give me sleep meds. I am very please so far, bored. There are some english channels on the tv. I havent walk much yet this will be my focus today I havent had a lot of gas though. I will get ice chios today and have only Water to wash my mouth out with and spit. I think im on iv bag 3 or 4 for fluids and I do not feel really hungry. Im excited about the ice chips though. Dr rosales dr alvarez assistant did come in and check on me as well as alvarez. I guess they came after surgery but I was out of it. The nurses take vitals every few hours. Other then that the free internet was easy to use and the holiday inn express was clean. Rosie is very down to earth and had a nice drive with her and everyone else is very approachable and helpful if you need it. I will be walking today as much a s possible. I just got Fluid bag four...so far I am very good and I will share the rest of the story later when i get home. I hope everyone is doing well...So happy to be on the post side! Take Care

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
