I would do the induction phase of the Atkins diet. Google it! But if you do follow it to the t it will work!

Yup, I agree with everyone above. I'm doing an Atkin's Induction-type diet and have lost 6 pounds in 4 days. The first 24 hours can be rough, but then you're home free...no more hunger. And drink lots of Water. Good luck!

Your surgeon is a sadist. I know we should do what he/she says, but all the different diets are so arbitrary.

Is your surgery on Monday or just a weigh in? If so you may not be able to the Adkin's right now. May be a safer plan to go with Protein shakes and clear liquids!

Or, I know, crazy thought lol but, why not call your doctor and let him know the position you're in and ask what diet he would prefer you use. I'm sure you're not the weight loss surgeons first patient who's had trouble dropping pounds!! ;) He may be able to suggest a liquid solution that will drop the pounds fast, or he may say that he wants you to keep doing what you're doing and just try and get as close as you can!!

Good luck!!!

I know it may seem as though your surgeon is being mean, but they have a method to their madness! Actually the less your BMI is the easier the surgery! So this is a good thing!!

I agree with everyone else above though. Go to shakes and Water only. EAS has a low carb shake that is awesome! You can get them at Walmart. I would drink 5 shakes a day (about 2-3 hours a part if possible).

If we did in fact do Atkins induction, or better, only drink Protein shakes for a week, would that effectively reset the weight loss where we could expect to lose 10-20 lbs in following 1-2 weeks?

I am thinking about it because I have stalled for last 3 weeks and want to blast off about 10 more lbs. Weight has even gone up 3 lbs this last week even though on same diet. I have stopped all exercise for last week and next week while I recover from an out patient back surgery.

Your thoughts on losing 10 lb without exercise (will be back at running and cross fit in a week or two)?

if I did Atkins induction diet to a T ( no shakes or Atkins brand foods, just leans meats And veggies, no sugar) yes for sure I would lose 10-14 pounds in 2 weeks. I have done in it the past. It's hard, but I works. I actually was a part of a "medical" weight loss program when I was 15 that my parents paid 8K for that had me on that diet so I'm kind of a pro. I started at 212 and I got down to the weight I am at now.... 175... At age 16. And when I was at my heaviest I was 24 I was 262. Now almost 30 years I weigh less then I did when I was 14. I love my sleeve

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
