Post Op Protein Shake and Calorie

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I get sleeved on Wednesday March 20, I am a little scared but super excited. My friend told me (who had a band) that her basic Protein Shake consisted of ice/protein/ 1/2c yogurt/ almond silk/ 2 splenda/banana/breakfast essentials dry. I have for my Protein Synthrax nectar Sweets; this sounds like a filling shake with a lot of calories? Is this the type of shake I am to be making when I come home from my surgery, I tried a lot of shakes premade and don't like the taste but I like that the calories are listed. I am getting my surgery in Mexico so I don't have a nutritionalist to ask. Thanks for any help

My 1st week was Clear liquids like chicken broth, sugar free Jell-O and sugar free popsicles. 2nd week was full liquids, meaning only basic Protein drinks and creamy Soups and yogurt - no bananas or anything that had lumps or bits and pieces. 3 week was pureed foods.

I wouldn't worry about the calories, it was a real effort just to eat anything the 1st week and by the 2nd week, I was only finishing 1/2 can of Cream of Mushroom Soup each day. But I was slowly able to each more each week.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
