Wls4me 163 Posted March 14, 2013 I have only told my husband and one friend about my surgery. I am now 2 weeks post op and someone from work has invited me out to lunch. How do you handle this? What do you say?
Ima Loser 197 Posted March 14, 2013 If you don't want to go simply tell them no... If you want to go, do your research adhead of time and go somewhere with really good french onion sould and just eat the broth!
PdxMan 4,292 Posted March 14, 2013 My first lunch with workers was at about 3 weeks post op. I ordered a cup of Soup. After I ordered, I excused myself to the bathroom and asked the waitress to have the Soup pureed. The person next to me asked if that was all I was going to eat and I just responded that I was having dinner with my wife and didn't want to spoil it. Since then, I have been out several times and always ask for a to-go box when my food arrives. If asked, I comment that I am just trying to reduce my portion sizes and eat less. Usually a couple others agree that we all should try eating less and will join me in getting a to-go box prior to eating.
Wls4me 163 Posted March 14, 2013 Thanks for your responses. It's one situation I didn't think about ahead of time.
Sassygirl06 962 Posted March 14, 2013 I had this happen. I just told them I couldn't because I had other plans but scheduled a date further out to go. Then when I was able to eat again I would order a salad....if you chew chew chew you can pretty much eat the whole salad, because its not bulky and then no one suspects anything. Good luck! joatsaint 2,814 Posted March 14, 2013 Just ask them to have a costco lunch. You know, where you go to Sam's club or Costco and eat all the free samples till you're full! Or you can beg off saying you were traumatized as a child after finding a paw in your happy meal!
Ms.AntiBand 2,984 Posted March 14, 2013 I order Soup or off child/senior menu and get a doggy bag if needed. My son usually eats what I bring home. Nobody is so rude to ask me anything. My extended family just thinks I'm on one of my gazillion diets.. AGAIN, and never say anything

My family does a SAMs lunch regularly even before my surgery. It's great for little kids ????
Kristina J. 581 Posted March 15, 2013 So you people are the ones backing up the lines for free samples when I'm just trying to get Protein Shakes, chicken, diapers and leave!!!! lol I LOVE me some costco (Sam's too) but even at my heaviest, the sample lines drive me crazy!! Haha I'm so my Papa's granddaughter. A 29 year old curmudgeon!!! Hahahaha
Kristina J. 581 Posted March 15, 2013 But to the OP... I second the Soup suggestions!! I always did that with my band. Even with people who knew I had it, I would eat soup when we went out so I didn't run the risk of getting "stuck" and having to run off to puke!! Lol
