Can i take prilosec whole?

Recommended Posts

I read so we here that you aren't supposed to take whole pills unless its a capsule for 30 days but then I see people all the time saying they always took whole pills. I really want to start taking Prilosec cos I have so much heartburn but idk whether to crush it up or just swallow it?

Oh that's good to hear... I'm gonna start taking mine then cos this heartburn sucks. Girl, I feel like crap. I've only lost 14 pounds. I'm thinking, I did not just spend 4700.00 dollars to lose the same amount I would on a silly diet. I'm majorly bummed but I know I haven't given it enough time. I'm just always hungry so I feel like this is not gonna work for me. Destined to be fat I guess. How are you?? You were doing awesome right after surgery... Are you still feeling as good? How much have you lost?

For the first 2weeks my doc had me open them up in a medicine cup and chase them down with a sip of Water. He started me on them 2nd day from surgery. Gas pain mimics hunger to our sleeves, hopefully after taking that your "hunger" will subside. Btw 14 lbs a month is 168 a year!!! You are doing great!

I did try tums and they do help a little bit. I've been having 65-75 grams of Protein a day. I don't want to increase it more and then be constipated lol. I'm glad you came out of your stall :)

After two weeks you could take them whole? I'm almost 3 weeks so I'd like to take them whole. I have no problem with drinking stuff. Nothing gets stuck. Pretty much feels like I never had surgery accept for paranoia of getting a leak. It's definitely hunger. I can determine what is gas, heartburn and hunger and I got all three, lucky me. The14 pounds is only upsetting because usually people lose a high amount and then slow down. If 14 is my high amount... That blows :( thank you for your input and advice :)

My Dr. had me taking them whole as soon as I was released from the hospital (2 days after surgery). No problems.

My doctor said to split them if they were over the size of an M&M, but I'm not sure how long after surgery he wanted you to do that, since I only had Singular and that's about the size of a tic-tac.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
