Pepper Paul 143 Posted March 14, 2013 I was sleeved first thing Monday morning. When I weighed on Tuesday I was up 13 pounds. Today when I weighed I was still up 6 pounds. How far out from surgery were you when you finally showed a net loss after surgery? I know it's just Water weight from all the saline but its still frustrating. VSGKirk 855 Posted March 14, 2013 I didn't weigh myself until 1 week post-op. My surgical team/center prepared me with a lot of information, so I was fully aware I would have Water retention right after surgery for a few days (if not a week). I was down 12 lbs after my first week (and that was with an additional 18 lb loss on the 2 week pre-op diet as well). I still only weigh myself once a week. I think it keeps me focused on the program and not a number.

lschmeeckle 4 Posted March 14, 2013 For the life of me, I don't understand how you can be stuck. They remove 75% of your stomach and you can barely eat. How can you NOT lose weight? Stalls with gastric sleeve make no sense to me.
mikeross 216 Posted March 14, 2013 I first weighted myself 5 days after surgery... was down 11 pounds,
TES 858 Posted March 14, 2013 Paul, congrats on your sleeve! I feel your pain. I gained 18 lbs from IV Fluid and swelling in the hospital. That came off within about 6 or 7 days. Then in the following days, I lost several more pounds of real weight, which was great. It was crazy when the fluid started coming off--I would weigh myself in the morning and again in the afternoon and lost a few pounds in between. If only that would happen with "real" weight! LOL. I did feel so much better getting that fluid out of my body. Not a good feeling. Don't worry it will start happening for you soon. Then just be prepared for the ubiquitous 3-week (or 2-week or 4-week) stall. Good luck!!!

Pepper Paul 143 Posted March 14, 2013 Thanks for the replies. I know I shouldn't be weighing myself every day...alright, several times a day, but I just can't resist. I know it will happen and I'm not getting discouraged, just anxious to see some positive movement.
OKSleever 144 Posted March 14, 2013 For the life of me' date=' I don't understand how you can be stuck. They remove 75% of your stomach and you can barely eat. How can you NOT lose weight? Stalls with gastric sleeve make no sense to me.[/quote'] It actually makes a lot of sense, biologically. Your body realizes that it's going to be getting fewer calories for an extended period of time after a few weeks of continuously not getting the nutrition it's used to, so it panics and goes into starvation mode where it wants to hang on to every calorie. Takes a bit to realize it has to give up the fat stores to fuel you, and that's when you come out of your stall.
