Endoscopy? No one has mentioned that to me?

I have my psych appt on Monday, my fitness appt next month & hopefully doing my EKG on Friday & blood work on Saturday. They won't let me schedule my appt with the NUT & doc for medical clearance until I have my blood work done.

Good luck to you abbygirl!

I don't know if it is a standard procedure for all docs, but there's nothing to it. They knock you out, run a Fiber optic camera into your stomach, take some embarrassing photos :P , and your done. It takes about 20 minutes and your throat might be a little scratchy.

Thank you joatsaint! Maybe I just haven't gotten as far yet for them to have mentioned it? Thanks for making it sound not so scary!

I think it was more stressful when they put the IV in before the endoscopy. Most have trouble finding my veins and I have to get stuck several times. But there was nothing to the scoping.

They said I might feel some burning in the IV site as they injected the anesthesia, I closed my eyes and opened them (I thought I had blinked!) and it was done.

The staff was making fun of me cause I put the bite guard back in my mouth. I thought I had let it fall out before test had started. :o

I just asked about this on another thread; I'm getting sleeved on the 28th and endoscopy has not been mentioned. I'm not going to bring it up either!

You may want to ask. Nothing like getting to surgery only to find out is canceled because someone forgot something. It almost happened to me. I had to scramble at the last minute.

I never had one.. Not everyone "needs" one I wouldn't stress to much. Other than being super fat I was pretty "healthy" so there were certain tests that I didn't have to do.

I'm healthy as horse other than the extra blubber and I am still required to do a scope. AND my doc keeps his patients awake. Eek. Just some stuff to numb the nose and throat. Nervous does not describe this feeling

Mine was due to a pre-existing gastric reflux issue. I think they only do it to ensure no complications and to see if there is something else that may be causing it like a hiatus hernia. My girlfriend had the sleeve last year and they fixed hers while they were doing it.....two for the price of one!

I did all mine in one shot. I am doing this in the USA but am from Canada so I wanted to minimize the number of times I had to sit in the border line up. I can get my other tests done here.

Excuse my language but f*ck that!

If ida had to do that awake I think I wouldn't of had my surgery done.

Did you get it done yet? Did it hurt?

Roflmao!!!!! I will be having it done Monday, so I will let you know how it goes. I'm super nervous about it, but the nurse said everyone handles it really well. I'm assuming I will be really numb. My paperwork says the camera is so small that I will still be able to swallow during the procedure. So.... Yeah. Eeek.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
