Hello, I'm Rebecca and I live in New Zealand. I was thinking of going to India for mine but have since read A LOT of North Americans go to Mexico (I was born in Toronto) so I've changed my mind and going through "alighterme.com"

I am going to pay for a friend to come with me but I think cancun or PV look nicer then tijauana but everyone I've heard of goes there? I want her to have a nice time while I'm in the hospital or napping once back at the hotel. It costs a little more but she's doing me a huge favour and taking time off work.

Has anyone got any story's of other places in Mexico? Thank you ????

Rollargirl, I also used alighterme, I had a great experience. I went to TJ though, but feel free to PM me if you have any questions I can answer for you. Congrats on your decision!!

Thank you! I'm loving ronda - I feel like I'm a pain in the ass with all my questions about dates & drs but she's always so nice!

My fried who can hopefully come works for air nz so we can get SUPER cheap flights to LA which means I have a little more to spend going to the "beachier" looking places so its nicer for her. (Yes i know i cant swim and will need to have naps and relax) she's getting leave from work so I want it to be worth her while too.

But if the drs aren't as good than safety obviously is #1 .... Everyone on here went to tijauana lol

I am going to Tijuana and have heard the Marriott there is very nice. But i think going to Puerto Vallarta or Cancun would provide a more interesting experience for your friend. I also learned that a lot of the bariatric doctors practice medicine in more than one place. Tijuana is just convenient and MiHospital is located only 3 blocks from the border. I think that's why you hear so much about surgery in that area.

Yes I think the drs must move around because there's only 2 days then later in the month 4 days where they're available? I'm learning a few names on here but to be honest I haven't seen any "stay away from this dr" ... Yes I think as a thank you to my friend (as well as paying her ticket) cancun would be much nicer for her.

Thanks ????

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
