What Is the reason I can't have a cup of cofee until I am three weeks post-op? I'm dying for one.

I'm dying to know the answer to this too! coffee is going to be one of the absolute hardest things I will have to give up. Are you talking regular or Decaf? I hate decaf but I guess it will be better than no coffee at all. I have a pantry full of Gevalia too! I'm sick just thinking about it. :(

its because caffine is a diuretic and until you are keeping down all of your fluids you can't have caffine. My Dr said as soon as I could keep down 64ozs i could have my coffee back!

With caffeine being a diuretic, I can only assume it would help with weight loss. (which is good for me) So, if it wont slow your weight loss, or cause adverse effects to the stomach, can't you consume caffeine? I know they say not to because of the dehydration, but it is still questionable to me

I get coffee at the quick stop. I use 1/2 Decaf and 1/2 dark roast. The dark roast is SUPPOSED to be lower in caffeene. The mix makes for a good cup of joe. BTW...I'm 2 1/2 months post op....50 lbs down...50 to go....first 20 lbs were pre op.

coffee is also acidic... this is probably not a good thing for a newly sleeved stomach. I am not allowed to have coffee for 6 months after being sleeved according to my post-op diet instructions... I think I am allowed to have Decaf at 3 months but would rather just skip that! I was also told nothing carbonated... forever and ever. Luckily I am already used to avoiding that with my Lap Band. The coffee think is hard for me but I am trying to cut it out slowly so I don't get the horrible headach post-op.

So I had my first cup of coffee and I am 3 weeks post-op. Big mistake. My stomach was pissed at me. Way to acidic. I had bad reflux all night and my stomach gurgled all night. Had a major diarrhea blowout and was up all night from the caffeine. Won't be drinking coffee any time soon. I did put a scoop of unflavored whey Protein in it to get some protein.

My dr said caffeine was fine could have day after. Just no carbonation until 6 weeks out. So thankful for this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
