most vile thing I have ever tasted

Recommended Posts

Cipro (broad-spectrum antibiotic) crushed up in light applesauce is perhaps the most vile thing that I have ever tasted. On the bright side, it caused me to drink about half a gallon of Water and Propel, though the taste is still there. I'm 5 weeks out and I'm supposed to crush my meds for 6 weeks, but I'm going to call my surgeon's office and ask if I can advance sooner. Cipro pills are huge, so maybe I can even cut it in half or quarters or something.

I found out that I have a UTI (which I'm not prone to at all), probably caused by the cathether at the hospital. Since I've also been having kidney issues, which may or may not be related, I really want to knock this out.

I had to take cipro liquid and omg it was horrible!!! I also had a uti and could only finish 3 1/2 days of that nasty stuff, I will never ever take it again!

Hopefully my uti will stay away.

I know you speak the truth. I have had antibiotics get stuck in the back of my throat, had to spit them up and take them again. Diabolical flavor! No wonder bacteria hates em, anything would.

I used to take powdered green tea extract in a shot glass of hot Water with a bit of splenda. Makes your entire body shudder in exquisite revulsion.

I only had to crush pills for the first 5 days as well. I was worried about a UTI because I wasnt sure I was getting enough fluids and that I had a kidney stone a month before surgery but thankfully I didnt get a UTI or another kidney stone.

As time goes on youll be able to take in more fluids which should help your kidney/urinary issues. Just gotta get you thru this rough patch. Hang in there.

Thanks Bunny! The crazy thing is that I drink minimum of 64 oz of Water every day (plus other fluids here and there), but usually 80 to 100 oz. The PA thinks this stems from the foley catheter at the hospital. It's only the 2nd UTI I've ever had in my life. Just grateful for antibiotics though! What's funny is that they think I have kidney stones also (but they are breaking up right now and showing up as black specs in my urine). Seems too coincidental for it not to all be related somehow. Want to knock it out!

I didn't know that Cipro came in a liquid form--wish they would have prescribed that...though it doesn't sound much better based on your description. :)

The Cipro is definitely bigger than that--very wide and I would say at least an inch long. It feels like the proverbial "horse pill"! :-)

That IS crazy because you are taking in a good amount of Water so your PA might be onto something. I didnt have a catheter thankfully.

I feel for you though sweety. Having a UTI alone is NO FUN at all but coupled with peeing tiny kidney stones? You poor thing. My stone was 3mm big and I thought I was going to die. But every since then, I think Im passing teeny tiny ones like you described. Kidney stones are no joke! Worst pain Ive ever felt in my entire life and I have over 15 hours of tattoos and multiple piercings lol. They equate it to childbirth but I couldnt verify that as I dont have any children.

Thinking of you :)

I've had to get all my meds in liquid for years from this stupid lap band! lol And most meds have a liquid version (I haven't had an antibiotic yet that didn't), but some of them do taste just as nasty as crushing a pill!! Lol BUT, If you get the liquid, many pharmacies will flavor it for you and it takes the harshest part of the medicine taste away. If your pharmacy doesn't do it, I believe it's Walgreens that will flavor any liquid prescription for you for like $3!! :)

So hoping that once I'm sleeved, and recover, I won't have to worry about needing every med in liquid form anymore! I compete with my kids for their liquid Tylenol!! ;) lol

I was told I could swallow my meds as long as they are smaller than an M & M. I use a pill splitter for any larger. No problems. Sleeved on March 6th.

That is definitely what I am going to do next time.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
