How do you regain it all?

Recommended Posts

I saw a woman who is looking to get a revision to bypass or DS because she lost 140lbs with the sleeve, then gained back 125 of those pounds. How does that happen?

easy, feel down depressed, bored, stressed, or even happy then turn to poor food choices....it may take longer to gain it back, but if eating habits don't change and there's no exercise its easy to gain it back.....2 years ago, I lost 60 pounds just to gain it all back and then some in about 6 months time.... I went from size 6/8 to 2x.....which led me to getting the sleeve to help control my eating and I know I have to have Protein first to stay healthy....I'm praying that I don't go back to junk food eating.

I would think that people may begin to start going back to bad habits. Although candy, alcohol and other things like that don't take up a lot of space, they have a lot of calories in them. So instead of trying to eat like they did in the beginning...they have changed their habits.

I can imagine it happening pretty easily if someone isn't willing to make a lifestyle change. You can graze all day on junk food, ice cream, high calorie drinks etc. and take in over 2500 calories. Some Starbucks drinks are crazy high in calories and carbs. (a Venti white hot cocolate is almost 600 calories, 21 grams of fat and 78 gm of carbs) I'm not putting down Starbucks, I loved me some Frappucino's back in the day.

I think it would take a long time. It took me a year to regain 10 lbs and that was eating lots of sweets and just crap. Before sleeve I would have gained 40-50 back in that time frame. I learned my lesson though, I've lost 11 lbs this month and am going to lose an extra 15 just for insurance. lol

I think that we all know 'how' we got to be big and that is probably how it happened for her...again. The sleeve is not a cure for obesity, we are! ;) The best thing to do is see this example and tell ourselves it can happen if we are not careful. I don't believe there is anything wrong with allowing ourselves a treat now and then but should we have ice cream/candy/alchohol or whatever our vice is daily? Nope, and if we do, the weight will come back. ;)

You can eat around the sleeve, no problem. Drink with your meals, high calorie coffees ... shakes ...

When I was training hard for running, I was eating in excess of 2,000 calories daily and that was healthy, nutritious foods. If I stayed on the couch and substituted crappy foods and ice cream, it would be no problem to gain weight.

But as my surgeon told me, it would take a real concerted effort to gain that kind of weight back. He did suggest therapy to deal with any food issues. I haven't done that, yet, but I could see where I do have my demons with food, for sure. I am coping with them for now, but if that were to change, I could be in real trouble, for sure.

Some folks gain all the weight back by grazing continuously throughout the day, and particularly by grazing on calorie dense foods when they do it. (Although this can happen with 'healthy' food choices too, if grazing frequently enough!) People can essentially 'outsmart' their sleeve/pouch/band by still eating small amounts at a time, but yet they do it repeatedly. I'm not speaking from direct experience since I'm still pre-op, but I know 2 people that gained all the weight back this way. The psych at my surgical center confirmed this when I asked him, and he basically said that some people end up trading in old binging habits, for new 'grazing habits'. The best defense is to recognize the behavior pattern early on, and seek out support!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
