HI Melanie...I can't tell ya how to feel, but I, like you, was scared. Excited about the prospect of being healthy again, but fearful of the surgical process...and the length of the journey to recovery. I have to say being 14 days post-op I'm thrilled with my decision. I won't say it was painless for me it was not, but it was very very tolerable. I've had worse pain post a sinus surgery. You will be weak after the surgery I lost 27 lbs in those two weeks prior and one week after and it left me real weak, but now that I'm allowed real food "soft food" I'm feeling much better. It's the journey that gets us back to health...I feel it will make us stronger people and certainly healthier.

Take care on Monday, I'll add you to my prayers this weekend and I'll talk to you on the other side girl.

Hi Melanie,

I had my banding done only 4 days ago. Like you before hand I was was wondering if I REALLY wanted to get it done. Then I thought about how much success my father has had with his and how I have struggled with my weight my entire life.

Weigh up the pros and cons. Is a small amount of discomfort for a short while and a change in your routine/eating habits worth it for a longer healthier life? For me the answer was a resounding yes.

Once you have had your surgery just make sure you follow the advice of your surgeon and drink the recommended amounts of fluids which have Protein and fibre in them. You'll do fine :girl_hug:

Best of luck :gluck:

Meredith

Welcome to the forum.

All of us have had our doubts. In time of weakness I have always gone to the before and after pages and looked at the results of others.

The best piece of advice I can give you is not to concentrate on your weight. I know that sounds weird, but I always counted success by what I can do. Make a list of things you want to do and mark them off one by one. It's a great goal setter and something to look back at when times get rough.

One thing I have pointed out many times is don't be surprised if you are going through a slight depression from the decrease in calories. Pre-op jitters are normal, I wanted to bail before my surgery, I'm actually surprised I went through with it.

Best of luck to ya!

I am sure we were all nervous as our surgery times grew nearer...however, once you have it done you'll wonder what you were afraid of. It was and is the best thing I've ever done for myself and I am thankful daily for this tool...you'll do great and we'll all be here for you. Keep us posted and good luck!

Hello,

I was banded on November 9th, 2006. I did alot of research and procrastinated for a long time before deciding to go thru with it. I was, like you, very nervous. I prayed and it really helped me get thru the night before and the surgery. You will be fine and I will keep you in my prayers. Good luck and remember to follow your doctors post op instructions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
