Got the norovirus 2 weeks post-op :(

Recommended Posts

I have never felt sicker in my life....just two weeks today post-op and somehow contracted this nasty virus. Two days now of extreme vomiting, horrible diareah, stomach cramps like I am going to die, chills and fever! Everytime I get sick, the pain in my lower right stomach hurts so bad. I pray no one else in my family gets it because its very contagious. Hoping I feel better tomorrow because I need to get some IV liquids, but up to this point I've felt to sick to move! I also pray it hasn't damaged my sleeve at all, because of all the pain from vomiting. I don't even know what to drink because everything makes me nauseous. Tried sucking on ice chips again, flat vernors, popcycles... idk what else to do! Need prayer and any info of what to do! Thanks

that sounds terrible...I don't want to add to your distress, but are you sure it's an intestinal virus? could it be some post-op complication? I am just concerned about you :(

I'm so sorry... I've had this and it's horrible! I was down from a Friday afternoon until Sunday night and I had a 9month old infant I was breast feeding. That was NO FUN! I hope you get past it quickly! I'm thinking about you!

I had the same thing happen to me and I went to the emergency room and I had a small leak in my sleeve. They kept me for 4 days and the leak was able to seal itself Thank God, I was so worried they were going to re-operate. The bad thing is that it was not covered by insurance so now I have $20,000.00 in medical bills it just sucks. But you should go get checked it could mean life or death if it is a complication from the sleeve.

Starting to feel slightly better, like I might actually live. I'll be so happy when I feel better. I know I'm only two weeks out and down 28lbs since surgery but still questioning if I did the right thing because of how crappy I feel!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
