Why is my doctor prescribing me potassium meds?

Recommended Posts

Perhaps you should ask your Dr. They will be able to give you a specific answer specific to your individual situation. Do you have their phone number? Do you really want a bunch of random people on an internet forum to answer this question for you regarding your health?

I'm certain there is a specific reason, and it's usually for low potassium. I would recommend you contact the prescribing physician and ask them for the details. I don't think it's a standard pre-op medication.

Usually anesthesia related. Being anesthetized can alter your potassium (and others) levels and put you in danger. Your prior level may have been flagged for a specific reason and your drs are taking a precaution. Just my opinion and I don't claim to be right.. I'm just a random nobody on the internet yapping my lips

;)

Mine was in my IV at the hospital. The nurses said it was standard protocol for all my Drs post-ops.
