Saw the surgeon today. Of course he recommends the roux en y but said the sleeve and the bypass are both good options. My husband is thinking I should get the bypass cause he's afraid I won't be as happy if i don't lose as much with the sleeve as i could with the bypass. I need to stay strong in my decision because this is what i want.

Psych next Tuesday then on to approval!

Just remember that this choice is yours, this is the rest of your life that you are making a decision about and you don't want to regret it! ;) There are plenty of people on this site to show that the sleeve is what you make it. I believe if you are dedicated to changing your health and lifestyle that you can lose all the weight you need to with the sleeve. I kind of struggle with this at first because I do want to lose as much weight as possible but I also wanted the least restrictive surgery and also do not want the malabsorption problems that I see in many bypass patients. Whatever it is that you decide, best wishes to you on your journey! :)

The bariatric doctor at Kaiser told me the RnY is in the past now and that most docs are doing the sleeve. Also the pouch of the GBS stretches a lot more than the sleeve will be the fundus is removed during the sleeve. The pouch in the RnY is made from the fundus and thus has more stretching to it..... Just food for thought...:)

devonmae

being on the "sleeve board" i'm biased towards the sleeve

you do have the malabsorption problems with the gastric bypass - intestines et al

many dr.s won't even perform the lapband due to all of its complications

why would there be a board regarding lapband to sleeve board if there were no problems with the lap band??

and the sleeve really DOESN"T - people are always concerned that "it" does stretch - but trust me it really doesn't!!!!

you will be very happy if you go the route of the sleeve

you will still lose weight at a "quick" rate - but then again, slow and steady wins the race too

good luck

I told my husband i want a slow steady weight loss I don't want rapid and dumping. He just wants what is best for me and what will make me happy. He doesn't want me to go through this and then regret it which i don't think i will At all. I am already do happy with my decision and i haven't even had surgery yet!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
