I'm 8 weeks post op tomorrow and I'm down about 40lbs ( I don't weigh in regularly) I've been having some trouble following my diet. In the last 2 weeks we moved and little league has been kicking my ass! We've also had some serious plumbing problems at the new house. Its all taken its toll on me. I haven't been eating good not taking my meds or drinking fluids.. so today I decided I need to get on track! I called Kaiser to see if I could meet with a nutritionist for some guidance.... would u believe they in so many words said NO!? Needless to say I was pretty upset. The lady gave me excuses as to why they couldn't see me. The main one was I wasn't 6 months post op. Like really I need help now not in 4 more months. I was mad and hung up. Someone else called back and tried to tell me different. Who do I call now?

I picked a surgeon that had a follow up program - including monthly NUT visists the first 6 months. I credit her with helping me be so successful, she really made a difference. I needed the support, but in truth just going back to sleever basics is what gets you on track.

Protein

low carb veggies

plenty of Water, but not with food

exercise

Vitamins

Small portions eaten 4-6 times per day! I still eat off a tiny plate and use appetizer utinsils and I am over a year out! It helps me keep portions small.

It is hard to really accept it, but other foods will derail or slow your losses.

Wow that sucks! My surgeon provides post op services (including nutritionists) for 5 years after surgery.

That seems strange because just after surgery is when you have the most questions and concerns about what you should and shouldn't be eating. I would call back and ask to speak to the dr.

Do you have a gym or Y in your area? They usually know of a nutritionist in your area. You may have to pay out of pocket. Also the local hospitals usually have a nutritionist on site, for wellness care. You might want to call them. They may even take your ins. Good luck finding someone.

I belong to Kaiser and have no problems seeing the bariatric dietician or a nutritionist..In order to get services you need to be the squeaky wheel.....Yep, call them back and tell them that it's urgent you see the nut.....you might not get an appt today, but they can offer something this week or the next week. Let me know what happens when they call you back. If that doesn't work, then go to see your PCP and he/she will get you in.... Keep trying.... :)

Is there some health reason that you might need to see a nutritionist, above and beyond your surgery? For example, ask if you can see a nutritionist to help control blood sugar levels, hypertension, etc., if you have any comorbidities. Basically they probably just want a way to be able to bill it. I would also try calling your surgeon's office directly to ask.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
