how should I feel & what to eat now?

Recommended Posts

Good Morning, Ladies & Gents.

Well, as I mentioned, I had my first fill on Tuesday. I'm not really sure how I am supposed to feel though? Example: I take a drink of Water and can feel it going down, & when it hits my stoma (spell?) it sort of makes a little burpy sound and it's gone & I feel fine. I know I have to change my way of thinking too - that I will not feel that horrible fullness I used to feel while eating, before being banded.

What examples can you give me of your daily diets on the mushy stage please. Dr. Leung mentioned soft chicken; soft vegies (he was kind of vague; and who better to ask than y'all), but what else? What about Breakfast and lunch? I could stay on this thick pureed Soup for a long time, cuz I am so afraid to stop losing; however, I know this is unrealistic cuz the solid food is what will make me full.

I know there are Soups on here, but I would like soft/solid food daily menus.

Thanks in advance. I am so glad you are all out there!!!!

Kat.

ps now I know what people meant when they said they were learning how to use their band, cuz I feel like that right now; I am fairly confused...guess it's trial and error.:nervous

Porridge is a good breakfast, certainly fills you up.

I basically blitzed normal food and one meal was a Protein Drink.

Be aware that when you blitz there is a lot more to eat! Went for a carvery and ended up with a full bowl of mush only ate about a 5th of it! It wasn't that it looked unappetising just to much.

So when doing your portions half what you think you should be eating!

I am on my first day of solids! Going to a restaurant tonight to celebrate! So small child size meal for me! I can't wait!

Although I know what you mean about the happy feeling to stay on mushie, but in the long run it isn't effective. The solids help you form your new 'slimline' stomach pouch.

Good luck

Hey Kat,

I'm very, very tight so I know what you mean.

I love oats for breakfast, If I'm really tight I use my little mixer thing you put down in a glass and puree them some and for lunch I love making sweet potatoes, those kind in a can and add some of that splenda brown sugar and butter and then mix them with a mixer after they're cooked and then put a couple of marshmallows on top, it is to die for. Just a few ideas that I use. Hope your feeling better soon.

One of my favorites, as Jack suggested, is Water packed tuna, finely mushed with some ff mayo. I love love love it!

For breakfast, I've been having either thick gourmet yougart with fruit or some low fat smooth cottage cheese with crushed pineapple or canned mandarins. Very tasty!

I know you said you don't want to stick to Soups, but I love a really thick split pea and ham Soup (ie so thick you can eat it with a fork lol). I bake a ham about once a month and use the leftover ham to make the soup. It blends up nicely for the mushie stage and because of the thickness, its really filling.

Split Pea and Ham Soup

Ingredients:

  • one bag of dried green split peas
  • 2 small onions, diced
  • leftover ham (about 3 cups, chopped)
  • 4 cups of chicken stock

Method:

  • Add ingredients together in crockpot. Cook on low for 3 to 4 hours, stirring occasionally

Easy peasy! Makes a huuuuuuge amount though, so have some extra mouths nearby to feed lol, or be ready to freeze some for later.

I made some really hearty Soups - a lentil and vegetable one, pea and ham like Jess suggests - real Soup, not canned.

Another thing I ate a lot of was a soft salad - peeled cucumber, skinned Tomato, a can of flavoured tuna, some chick peas and chopped avocado. Because the veges were peeled they were very soft and easy to eat, this was really yummy and something I still eat a lot for lunch now, but in larger quantity. I used the flavoured tuna and therefore didnt need dressing.

Mashed vegetables, including a binding one like potato or pumpkin (I loooove pumpkin) mashed with just a bit of butter (afterall you're not having a Protein in or any fat in there) and some gravy on top was delicious too.

I'm not big on Protein Shakes, I dont like them and by that stage I was soooo over fruit smoothies, I've barely drunk one since, that couple of weeks on liquids has put me off them for life, lol.

Hi there,

I had my band done back in Jul 07. Its only 2wks ago on my 4th fill, which will be my last fill as my band fill is at its max now, that I feel a good restriction. After my 1st wk of going back on liquid diet, on my 2nd wk, my main food are , Soup (w small pcs of chickens) fish mash pie, cottage or shepperd pie. Surprisingly yesterday (near the end of my 2nd wk)I tried a small portion of well cooked tender lamb shank (cooked with lots of gravy), and I managed to get it down. Of course its been cooked till really soft. Morning are my worst time, nothing will go down at all. SO I tend to leave Breakfast till near 10am when Im at work and have a yogurt. lunch is always soup. Today I tried a banana and 1/4 pc of bread with cheese (crust cut off) and after chewing very slowly and finely, it went down too. SO good luck to your trials and errors.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
