I should be getting sleeved in June. I know there is some things I need to start doing now. I can't get going, I still drink when I eat, I still eat bread and some sweets, I cut down in the Pasta and potatoes, and do go to the gym, but the weight is up because the food is up. Am I screwing this up? I have an appointment with my surgeon on the 19th. Hes not going to be happy. Don't know what I am asking for here, maybe just some ideas to get me started

All I can say is follow your doctors orders. The reason we get sleeved is because diets haven't worked for us in the past. Preop is just that, a diet. You will still crave sweets, breads and pastas. The only advice I can give you now is to try an identify exactly why you are craving these foods is this truly a craving from within or is this because of stress or boredom, etc. Also, the drinking with meals thing you can practice, but as long as you are doing your best and following what the doctor orders you are doing well. Its much easier post-sleeve, at least for me.

Write everything down that you eat. Itll really open your eyes ti what you're doing. I use MyFitnessPal. Have you seen a nutritionist? They can give you guidelines and support. Mine can get in to my MyFitnessPal and monitor what I'm doing. I'm chicken to actually let her see so I haven't set that up, but I could :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
