Ok, I'm so beating a dead horse but today I have my last preop dr visit with sx scheduled for March 21. I have had a MASSIVE resurgence of fear!!!!! Will I be able to adjust to the new life?? What if this and what if that??? Very unsure and scared right now!!!!! I guess I just want to know if its worth it. Plain and simple.

For me it was worth it, but I recovered easily and was fortunate enough not to have any complications. I went from 235 to 128. I'm 5'3. I'm healthy, happy, and active. The first month was the worst and then it continually got better little by little. It is an adjustment in lifestyle and it is major surgery. With that being said, if ur ready to do the work (follow the docs instruction regarding nutrition and exercise) it could change ur life. Good luck!

First of all, step back and take a deeeeeppp breath! Go ahead, I'll wait. :)

Ok, now, trust the decision you made before it was so close and know that the nerves and questions about the actual procedure are perfectly normal. I am quite sure that everyone who has made this decision to better our health made it over time with great thought to the risks VS the benefits. You did the same. I know I had the same nerves and second thinking myself. We all did.

When you sit back and really think about it you know in your heart what is right for you and just have tell the "Negative Nancy" that resides in all of us to go take a flying leap! :P

Best of luck to you!

I completely understand your fears as it gets closer..My surgery is schedule for April 2nd and the closer it gets the more nervous I get as well. I think it's only natural since we are "choosing" to have this surgery you can't help but question yourself. But I agree with newat52 that we have to remember why we made this decision in the first place, because we are miserable and tired of dealing with being over weight and unhealthy. It took me over a year of fighting with my insurance to finally get approved so I have to keep telling myself everytime I get nervous that I wouldn't have fought so hard to get this if I wasnt' sure it was what I wanted in the first place. Good luck to you and just keeping thinking about the positives to get you through your fears..

I am still learning what my tummy likes and what it doesn't but other than that EVERYTHING is smooth sailing!! I have lost 64lbs and i FEEL GREAT!! I can play games with my students I can walk around the school without my body hurting etc.... I would do it again and I would suggest to anyone that is thinking about it to get it done!!

We all have these fears of failure. But I realized that I didn't need to eat much anyways. That was my turning point. The bear decision I have ever made I love my sexy healthy body!

I relate. I was very comfortable with my decision for surgery until the date crept closer. And then bam!!!! The fear set it. I did not see it coming. I started to fear the permanency and cross over addictions and the loss of binge eating, oddly enough. Things I had considered before. But I dont know. As it gets more real.... it's just such a big change. It's scary.

I'm 2 days away and I'm calming down, thank goodness.

I have to add tho.... don't listen to people insisting that you do it. Even if it was the best decision THEY ever made.

I remember sitting in the hospital bed smiling, thinking "oh my gosh, I did it" It's jumping off the high dive! Exilerating. I did put mine on hold prior to try dieting one more time... Love my sleeve. 9 weeks out.

Not to make light of things because these emotions are VERY real.

But....to quote Dr. Phil...."how's it working for you now?" :D

Why would you want to go back?

I have a feeling you will be so happy afterwards. I will be a week out tomorrow and I already know my life is changing for the better.

Best wishes sweetie! :)

Indeed. You are so right. We all make the decision that is right for us in the end and it should be done without pressure.

No, there is no pressure. I LOVE hearing people say what a good experience they had. It gives me hope and eases my fears a bit. I'm sure most of us have the same fears, dreads, etc. Mine are how will it change me? Will I be able to handle the changes? Will it hurt? What about long term complications? Things like these keep bouncing around in my noggin!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
