Hey on PRE-OP diet - is celebrity slim shakes ok?

Recommended Posts

Hey Fellow aussies!!

My surgery date is 26/03/2013 - so I started my pre-op diet today - my dietician was really relaxed about my diet - I because I'm healthy (no pressure or sugar etc. issues) and I'm smaller...

she actually was NOT going to put me on a pre-op diet at all - until I quickly mentioned my liver is slightly enlarged... when I brought up shakes, I mentioned I had some body BSc women's shakes in my pantry and she just shrugged and said any shake is fine... but some of these Protein Shakes do have a considerable amount of carbs in them -

I've tried emailing and calling her sending her pics of the nutritional info of the shakes I'm taking, but no response yet...

so I'm turning to you guys on this forum... I bought some celebrity slim as well, coz its on special at woolies at the moment... please tell me if these two: BSc Body women shakes (swisse choc) and the celebrity slim range are ok for pre-op to reduce the liver size...????

THANK YOU SO MUCH...and OMG celebrity slim strawberry is a GOD-SEND.

My surgeon recommended Optifast, but celebrity slim was "ok". Never heard of the other one. Where are you having your surgery?

Good luck.

Hey puppyphat...

I'm having it done at the Chermside Holyspirit Hospital and the surgeon is George Hopkins... my nutritionist is Margie brooke.

What about you??

I'm not sure if I've over done my portions tonight, a few long green Beans and a rectangle portion of salmon... I had about a 1/3 cup of chicken at lunch too (amongst shakes..)... and seriously considering another shake before bed...Sh** I'm not good at this....TOTALLY ADDICTED TO food...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
