Crossfit4Me 3 Posted March 11, 2013 I'm having surgery Thursday and just want to know when you post op'ers were able to eat "normal" again? Meaning, being able to eat pretty much what ever you want just smaller amounts and making good choices. 3months? 6 months? I just need to have a goal to work towards. I'm starting to freak out and feel like I will never be able to eat "normal" again. Again, to me normal is eating healthy about 80% of the time and eating smaller meals. This is what I try to do already, which is okay. Just looking forward to not feeling hungry no matter what I do and unsatisfied. Help please!
joatsaint 2,814 Posted March 11, 2013 At around 6 weeks, I could eat pretty much anything I wanted. At 11 weeks, I still have stomach grumblings when I eat hard to digest stuff like apple peels and cauliflower. I can eat it, but my stomach grumbles a little. Otherwise, no issues with chicken, steak, pork, ice cream, Peanut Butter, seeds, nuts...ect.
loveabledeeuk 20 Posted March 11, 2013 I'm 7weeks post op and still have problems eatting. Can't wait til I'm 'normal' again.
ASKSARAH - Sleeve 256 Posted March 11, 2013 I am almost 6 weeks and s tarting to eat normalish... I had chicken last night that was baked with broccoli and cheese and I did well. We are all different however. Give yourself 5-6 weeks
Lissa 2,631 Posted March 11, 2013 Six months is when I really felt "normal" on food again. That's when I was allowed to add salad and other fibrous foods back into my diet. I don't eat anything like I at pre-op at this stage, though. My food choices are much better because I realize that I have to get the Protein first.
Ms.AntiBand 2,984 Posted March 11, 2013 I hope I never eat "normal" again! I don't want to eat anything I want. I don't mean to be harsh, because I know some just want to eat like everyone else. My problem.. I can't do that without gaining weight. For me it has to be all or none. I either live and eat healthy to lose/maintain or eat whatever and be unhealthy and become out of control .. Yet again, as like before I was sleeved. If you mean normal as in only eating healthy, I'm 8 weeks out and can eat all normal "good for me" things.
vols fan 60 Posted March 11, 2013 I'm six weeks post op today I basically eat whatever I want but only about 5 to 6 bites and then I'm full but satisfied!
lilbearzmom 584 Posted March 11, 2013 At 8 weeks I went 100% "normal". I still eat "Protein first", but there's no limit on foods. I was one of the lucky ones, though, the only thing that makes me ill is eating too fast, which I'm working on...LOL -Kendra
T'snewstart 251 Posted March 11, 2013 I am 4 months post op. I still have a had a hard time with corn and have yet to eat lettuce and other fiberous veggies. Mainly, I can eat 2 oz of protien with about 1/8 cup of veggies and I am full.
PdxMan 4,292 Posted March 11, 2013 Yup, like Lissa, at 6 months I was able to eat steak, bread, Pasta, lettuce, tortilla chips ... without feeling like something that rhymes with "fit". Albeit smaller bites and chewing really well, but that was my marker ... 6 months.

erp 2,016 Posted March 11, 2013 Only 3 weeks out but wanted you to know that it is a process. Everyday I discover more that I can eat. Yesterday it was pulled bbq chicken (I'm on mushies) today it was pepper jack cheese. So far no problems with anything I've tried. I think you will feel 'normal' sooner than you think. Good luck! Crossfit4Me 3 Posted March 12, 2013 Thanks for everyone's feedback. It has really helped calm me a lot. Everyone's goals are not the same and I don't expect that my goals will necessarily be in line exactly with everyone else's. For me, I just want to be able to live like what I feel is normal, which is being able to indulge from time to time without feeling guilty and to be able to eat a small portion and be satisfied. And not always be obsessing about food because I am hungry!! I have lost a lot of weight already on my own with diet and exercise (I'll be going into surgery Thursday at about 190 to 195lbs) but it is always a struggle as I always feel hungry and deprived. My biggest issue is Portion Control because it takes a lot for me to feel full and satisfied. I look forward to not feeling hungry all the time but want to get back to being able to choose what I want to eat to fuel my body for my active lifestyle. I hope this all makes sense as I feel like I'm rambling. I just keep thinking about how I may never be able to eat something I like again and it's kind of depressing.
