As a continuing struggle to maintain my post op weight, I just learned of this today, although some of you may already know about it. It seems Panera has a "secret" menu. You won't see it listed in the restaurant. You have to tell the staff you're ordering from the "Hidden Menu." There is a handful of very low carbs, high Protein options that look really good.

Just ask the sever about the hidden menu.

I was happy to go to Don Pablo's and getting grilled chicken off the children's menu with no problem.

Thanks to my last "diet" (Jenny Crarig), I learned that out of all the fast food chains, Panera seemed to be the "least" bad...(if you know what I mean). I would have a small black bean Soup, 1/2 classic salad and 1/2 cuban sandwich. Now after my sleeve, this is still my go-to meal since I know it was the "healthiest" choice on the menu. I have 1/2 of a small black bean soup and the equivalent of one big bite of the cuban sandwich and no salad (yet - still have trouble getting raw veggies down). I laugh, because even with the low-fat, carb meal, I used to still eat the chips or extra bread (forget the apple - what am I a horse??- LOL) I'll have to ask about the "secret" menu. Although it won't make much of a difference for me now, I'm still very restricted at 5 months today, but some day, some day..... :)

I've worked at panera for about a month and a half now and just the other day had my first person order off the hidden menu. I still haven't tried anything on there, i need to get to it because they look good lol.

Its "hidden" just cause they wanted to test out how well the media network got information around.

I'm thrilled to know about this! Panera is usually my go to when I'm on the road and have to eat out somewhere. :) I'll totally be ordering some of these selections. :)

Panera's is a business, lets face it. They are out to make a profit, that's the nature of business.

Yet on the other hand if a business can reply to the a demand, that most eating establishments don't and

they can make money doing so. That's a plus for them. Most restaurants do not offer high Protein

low carbs meals. McDonald's is dropping its fruit & Walnut salad. It's up to a healthy eating public to request

more nutritious menus to make a difference. Panera's is a start.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
