Insulin Therapy and slow weight loss? HELP!

Recommended Posts

I am a type II insulin dependent diabetic. I am 8.5 weeks post surgery and have lost 27 lbs. I lost about 20 in the first 3-4 weeks. The last 4 weeks I've only lost about 7 lbs, really none of that in the last two weeks. scales haven't been moving. I'm very discouraged.

My dr. did say that insulin therapy can slow weight loss but I'm hoping to hear some other stories about this topic and when people did start seeing more results. I have started exercising and trying to get more in recently. My calories are still under 800-900 a day.

Although I take less insulin than I did before surgery, I have not been able to get off of it. I take about 30 of lantus at night and approximately 8 units of regular insulin before meals with carbs.

PLEASE ADVISE!

Kathy

I was on 26 units before meals and 74 at bedtime. After surgery for a few weeks off of insulin and only took metforin. Main reason I had surgery was to get the diabetes in control because in the 2 years I was on insulin I gained 25 lbs. now at 11 weeks post op iam back on 30 units before bed plus the 1000 ml of metforin twice a day.

I am down 52 lbs since start of pre op liquids. I need to talk to my endocrinologist and see how we'll my pancreas and liver is working. I hope I can at least lose another 50 lbs. it seems so not possible for some reason. It has slowed down so much but I have to keep trying.

Best of luck to you and we have to hang in there.

Thanks for the input Mokee. They lowered my insulin right after surgery but it was too much and glucose numbers were high so had to increase again. Yes getting diabetes under control was the biggest factor in my decision for surgery. But it looks like you are moving right along so hopefully I will too. Good luck!!!

I have been a insulin diabetic since I was 8. I am 35 now. I am only 2 week post op but I too seem to lose slower than others. I was always told insulin will slow your system but this is not to say the weight won't come off. They warned me I might be 6 mn behind my goal and others with similar stats but it will come off. I will just need to work out a little more than the others to raise my metabolism and watch my carb intake. It sounds like you are doing well just need to keep moving and give it time :)

Thanks srpiccollo. Hopefully your weight loss will be faster. You are a lot younger so that is in your favor. Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
