Day 20 and I just started my coffee back, I was told I didn't have to give it up at all except day before surgery, but i didn't really have the desire to drink it, Now I am better off all meds and eating soft foods, I need the extra Water in me, I am still not at 64 ounces a day. Mary

I still drink ice tea with caffeine. I tried drinking coffee and had such reflux it wasn't even worth it. But it was cafeteria coffee, which kinda sucks. Gonna try coffee again at some point.

I am drinking coffee -- at least a cup a day and sometimes up to three. Two is probably my normal amount.

I don't usually have a problem with it as long as I don't drink too much without eating.

I drank a x large dunkin donuts coffee(black) for years every morning. My Dr/NUT told me to wait six weeks before I can drink it again (which I did). To my surprise I had no withdrawal whatsoever. I could have had Decaf, but don't like it. I am 9 weeks post op, and I now drink a medium coffee (black) daily and I am loving it.. I missed it so much..

If you are worried about headaches, try cutting your consumption in half tomorrow. Then after a few days cut that in half again. Few days cut it in half again. Then you should be able to stop with minimal headache if any at all.

My surgeon doesn't limit caffeine at all, which surprises me because he is so strict about so many things (like when certain foods are introduced), but he goes by the evidence in the medical literature plus his own experience and makes his recommendations based on that. I even got caffeinated black tea in the hospital on my first trays. I have heard that caffeine can be a diuretic, so that is probably counterproductive when you are trying to get in fluids.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
