I am 5 days away from surgery and in the process of shopping for vitamins... My guide from Pre-Op suggested taking an Adult Multivitamin, B12, calcium citrate + D3, B Complex and Liquid Protein supplements. The guide recommended taking liquid, powder or chewable vitamins after surgery but I'm clueless of where to find them. Please help by giving suggestions on places to find these along with the best brands to choose.

Bariatric Advantage has great calcium citrate choc chews that taste like tootsie rolls.

The are 9.99 if you put them on auto ship. That's only 500 of calicium citrate and you will need more. I get capsules from vitacost.com . They have chewables there too, but I find them to be too sweet. I get everything there, my D3 B 12 sublingual,

and my Protein powders that I make shakes.

have you checked out the places to get samples? It's in the food forum under Protein Shakes. Bariatric Advantage has a whole sample package. Tell them you're getting the sleeve because I think they give different stuff to gastric bypass patients.

I use a variety of things. When I was first sleeved, I used a Flintstones chewable multivitamin. Now I take a prenatal with Iron, but I'm 12 weeks out. I found sublingual B12 at Walgreens which works great. I use Calcet Creamy Bites, they are 500 mg of calcium citrate + Vitamin D.. Those are great, and taste like a peice of candy. I also use Citircal petites, since I take Calcium 3x a day (they are pills). I use the Premier Protein shakes from costco. Very good, not terribly expensive, grab adn go, 30 gm Protein per shake.< /p>

I bought chewable calcium citrate at vitacost, I got sublingual b-12 from puritain's pride, and my multivitiman is Bariatric Advantage. My doctor told me I can switch to pill form just as soon as I feel ready so got the BA capsules for multi Vitamin and will just take a flintstone vitamin for a little bit after surgery until I am ready for the pills. Also for the Calcium, The most cost effective way for me to go is with the puritain's pride calcium+d3 petities.. they are just like the citrical petities, but they worked out to be only $6.00 a month if I bought two bottles I got three bottles free and I had a 10% off coupon so it was a good buy. Some people on here were saying that their nutritionists said that they should not take the citrical petities because they would not dissolve and would just sit in their tummies like little stones. I wondered about this since my doctor said it was ok... so I did a straight Water dissolve test where I put a citrical and a puritain's pride petite calcium pill in a glass of water. Both pills dissolved in 6 minutes which is very fast. I also bought a probiotic bead from Puritain's Pride that was about half the price of CVS/Rite Aid

The Protein Powder suggested by my doctor is unjury . Funny name but it taste great and you can find their products on their website, Unjury.com. Also, there are adult Multi Vitamins gummies that I usually buy at Wal-Mart. Good luck and I am jealous, my surgery is in a month.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
