Has anybody had the surgery and when you woke up the doc said " sorry your liver was to big, we need to wait another week" my surgerys TOMORROW! And that's what I'm freaking out about. Cause I "cheated" a couple times in the first and second week and now I don't think my liver shrunk. I've lost about 45 pounds in the whole process. Of dieting and exercising then lost 15 of being on liquid. Please help!

Ayla, just losing 5-10 pounds shrinks your liver pretty significantly. You should be fine, I am sure you will wake up sleeved and on the road to a healthier you.

Not all doctors make their patients do a pre-op diet, so im sure they can work around your liver. It just might take a few minutes longer.

Really? I thought they couldn't give the surgery at all if your liver was its "normal" size.

If your liver is too large, it can result in your not being able to have the surgery laparoscopically, which would either result in having to have an open procedure or have your surgery postponed. However, as I said before, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

*susan* said it right. Difference can be laparoscopic or open. You are probably fine.

I never had a preop diet, sailed through surgery without a problem. I would put little thought into this now, start focusing on yourself and the start of a new healthier life.

I think you may be surprised at what you weigh right before surgery. I didn't have a pre op diet either, just eating lightly the day before and nothing after midnight. When I got on the scale I had lost 7lbs from my last dr appt. I think I was kinda stressing and nervous (it was my first surgery ever) and it caused me to lose weight. I was no angel tho and had a few food funerals ( which was so unnecessary looking back from where I am now) so don't worry. You will be fine! Try to relax and get mentally prepared for the greatest change in your life! Good luck! You will be in my thoughts! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
