Surgery Tomorrow 3\11 what to bring to the hospital

Recommended Posts

Hey guys --

My surgery is tomorrow and i wanted to know what i should bring to the hospital. They never went over this with me lol.

I'm going to have both the drainage tube and the pain pump so I'm figuring i will just be in a hospital gown. Or should i bring some sleep dresses (or MooMoos as my husband lovingly calls them)

The internet it available so my iPad will be packed......

Suggestions?

Thanks

I took a robe and walking slippers since I heard we need to walk. They usually provide Shampoo type stuff, but if you prefer your own that would be an option. I was only in overnight so some of the things I thought I would take for passing time was useless--no real time to entertain myself, either walking, drinking or sleeping. And don't forget iPad charger :) to keep in touch!!

they do provide you with tooth brush and paste, and soap and Shampoo for showering, but you could take your own if you like. I took some pajamas to change into after the first day. Was so much more comfortable! Also, i'd take your own pillows with. Good Luck!

I would skip your own nightgowns and go with what the hospital supplies. My hospital also had slippers for walking. You might want a bathrobe if you think that would be more comfortable than using another gown to cover up.

Chapstick is a must ! You won't get anything to drink the first day, and you really won't feel like drinking a lot (even though they will be pushing you to) during your hospital stay.

I brought a small tube of lotion and it really made me feel better - the air in the hospital was very dry.

ipad is a good idea.

Good luck !

Use the hospital gowns until u go home. You will have blood etc that can get on your stuff. Also use hospital socks at all times so you will not fall. I am a nurse so I know what I am talking about. Keep cute stuff for going home but bring a robe if u want. Long sleeves can get caught in IV lines

I took a really soft throw size blanket and my own pillow (in an old pillow case) - so very, very glad I did. My room was chilly and the hospital pillow was flat. I also took my ipod.

Thanks for the advice --- I am packing my bag now and will include some of these items defiantly the chap stick and bathrobe

I live literally 30 seconds from the hospital so i may have my parents bring over some pillows if i need them.

Candi :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
