katia 17 Posted March 10, 2013 Has anyone gained weight while being on a liquid diet? I started my Optifast diet on the march 5th, as of today I gained 3 lbs. I have not cheated at all, I scheduled for surgery on the 19th. I currently weigh 247 and the dr wants me to loose 17 by the 18th. Does anyone know what I can do? Nyx2891 15 Posted March 10, 2013 Do you take any medications that could be hindering your weight loss... I am on Opti and Abilify it took me 5 days to lose 3 pounds which i felt was implied not to be normal by the doctor. You should call you doctors office and speak to the nutritionist - maybe they can switch you to something other than Opti
TheGamer 406 Posted March 10, 2013 I think another good assessment would be to find out how many calories you're consuming on the liquid diet. I know that on mine I was allowed 3-5 shakes a day (Bariatric Advantage), with each shake being between 150-250 calories, depending on what I added to it. That gave me a ballpark caloric intake of between 450 (at lowest) and 1250 (at highest) per day.

I drink 5 a day for a total of 800 calories a day. Aside from Water and a sugar free Jello (which is 5 calories) I have nothing else.

You shouldn't be consuming enough to result in weight gain in such a short period, though the body does do strange things (you'll find THAT out post-sleeve when you gain weight on 600 calories XD) when it comes to weight loss. katia 17 Posted March 14, 2013 So I spoke to the ST's office they were not very helpful. I then went to see my endocrinologist, she was super helpful. She asked me stop the insulin & bam!!!! Two days later I lost 6 lbs. I am currently down 8 lbs. that is still only two down from where I originally started at. I also cut back on the shakes, I am taking 4 instead of 6. Any other suggestions?
Nyx2891 15 Posted March 15, 2013 Glad you figured it out... I only did 5 shakes
