Welcome to the board. Just remember that you will get lots of conflicting opinions and advice on the board as you go along......make your doctor give your guidelines as to what he recommends and then listen to him and to your body.

Best wishes!

That information if not provided already by your doctor or bariatric center should be given to you before you leave the hospital from your surgery. I was handed a take home packet that specifically stated what I could have, how much, the dos and don'ts plus I was given samples of different Protein drinks, puddings, juices etc. If you still have questions then call your nutrionist or doc :)

We're all nervous before our surgeries...it's only natural. Actually if you weren't the least bit nervous...I'd worry then lol. You've already picked your surgeon so you trust him and his staff....you already know this is what you wanted...so go with it and trust yourself with your decision. I know I haven't regretted it since I've had it...the week before and especially the night before I cried because I kept thinking "why can't I just lose weight on my own, why this drastic measure?". I answered....Because you've tried it all only to lose and gain back. After 3 weeks of losing you hit a plateau and give up, gain it all back plus..at least with the band you can't give up...it's going to kick ya in the pants and keep you going. THATS exactly what it's been doing for me and I LOVE IT!

Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
