Just got the nicest email from my uncle, that i would like to share. I am having surgery on Monday and am so blessed to have a family that fully supports me on this journey. His email totally made me feel better

Here's the email he sent. :)

Jenn,

I know that you must be going through mixed emotions on your upcoming surgery.

Just wanted to let you know that my heart and prayers will be with you through all of this. You a strong young woman and will get through it with everything you expect.

I will be with you in heart, spirit, and hope.

This will just be another chapter that will make you stronger, more determined, and successful.

If I had great words to tell you, I wish they would let you know how special you are.

But you are stuck with an old Uncle that can wish you nothing but the BEST.

Love,

Uncle Mac

That was so beautiful and positive. You are truly blessed to have family that supports you in this journey. I don't have that support at all. I was told I was crazy and desperate to have this surgery in Mexico. Kuddos to your fam :-)

This is awesome! My family will probably write me letter saying:

Dear Jessica,

It was nice knowing you, but we probably won't see you again. We warned you about going to Mexico. You will either end up kidnapped, or shot in a random shooting by the border. If not, then I'm sure your surgeon will give you a Mexican hack job. We love you.

Love,

Your entire family

Lol all of these things have actually been said to me. It's quite sad, and it bothers me how ignorant they really are about this surgery. :( I hope that I find someone as supportive as your Uncle. :)

That's so sad! Mexico is NOTHING like the Media makes us too believe!! Of coarse there is bad places and people in Tijuana but where we are there is nothing but normal City Life. The people are the most Nicest, Polite, Professional people. I will tell you straight up that I had 10x better care and service than I have EVER had in the States. And my husband and I are planning a trip back to Tijuana, since we only live 4 hours away.

I am part Mexican and have a lot of experience with tourism in Mexico. Mexico absolutely can be a very dangerous place to go and visit, if you are not educated.

However, these "sleeve centers" are typically not in bad areas at all. They are in tourist areas, that are Internationally known and respected. Because Mexico makes so much money on these tourism areas, they invest heavily in the safety and protection of these areas. Mexico is like any other country, there are lots and lots of great people and then there are a few bad. The few bad in Mexico seem more violent and more rampant that the bad in the US. This is largely in part of the fact that Mexico doesn't have the money and the resources that the US has to fight criminals.

But as far as Medical Tourism, Mexico sleeveres should just focus on being healthy, getting your procedure, and getting enough energy to come home. There really is little risk of being a victime of a crime in these towns!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
