slimjim41 33 Posted March 9, 2013 Hi. I'm prepping for surgery and want to buy Vitamins I can take. Can we take pills, capsules, etc? I have fish oil pills but they aren't small.. Any recommendations? I currently take Biotin, a probiotic, Vitamin D, Iron, coq10, and a multi... Thank a bunch for any help.
Andi 78 Posted March 9, 2013 chewable Vitamins are better absorbed & I believe that they're pretty universally advised. My hospital sells Bariatric fusion. 2 chewable Multivitamin pills, twice a day. They cost $25 for a month's supply & they cover all the supplements that my team requires & it has Biotin too. It's convenient & very cost effective. I'd definately talk to your doctor/team about the fish oil. I'm not sure how well that would be tolerated.
Mysties mom 23 Posted March 9, 2013 I would be very careful about taking the fish oil our any other supplements that are in gelcap form .... We were warned that they do not break down in our small tummies and can expand& block the stomas. We had one man in our support group session this month that that happened too and hit had to have it strictly removed. I take either liquid, chewable or fast dissolving vegetarian capsule specifically designed for bariatric patients.
ginamaria 31 Posted March 9, 2013 I went to Whole Foods and bought a good liquid multi Vitamin. Can't take till after surgery on Monday but it should be much better and absorb more quickly and easier. I have always taken vitamin b liquid, flavored so doesn't taste bad. Really like that. Just a suggestion. I'll keep ya posted.
