4 days post op questions?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery last Wednesday and well, am still feeling kinda crappy. I am walking a lot but geesh these gas pains are killing me. And the incision pain definitely slows things down too. Only passed gas once so far but lots of burping and hiccups. I also have lower back pain-like an achy tailbone kind of a thing. I'm not second guessing myself-still happy I did vsg! Just wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks for the first few days of discomfort? Thanks!

Heating pad for your back and a barrel of Gas-X for your tummy. They wouldn't let me take the Gas-X in the hospital, but once I got out, chewed one of those puppies every few hours and felt much better fast.

I slept sitting up for the first few days so that the gas wouldn't build up in my stomach. I had major gas two days ago. Nothing really you can do but take it. I took a beano and that helped some. The achy tailbone may be from air or that you were on it for a while. Just relax and avoid laying flat so has doesn't build up. Give it an escape route.

I found that drinking all of my liquids warm helped a ton with gas and with getting them down. My sleeve didn't like anything cold for a couple of weeks.

First five days were not fun for me. Morning of day six no pain meds needed. I was able to tolerate liquids a lot better. I bet tomorrow or the next day you will really turn the corner and start feeling much better. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
