food getting stuck alot...

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I was banded in April of 06 and have lost 48 lbs since I made the decision to get banded. A few weeks ago I got a fill, which took me up to 2cc on a 4 cc band. But I am having food get stuck very often and also PBing. This is getting quite annoying! I have tried all different types of food, but it is hit or miss. Any suggestions would be helpful!:phanvan

You have to chew everything really, really well, first of all. Secondly, you may want to avoid certain foods. I, for example, cannot eat most meat (I stick to ground beef, some dark, moist chicken, etc), pizza, Pasta, rice, potatoes, anything with breading on it, fiberous veggies, and scrambled eggs. And you are right about it being "hit or miss". Some days I can eat something and some days I can't. Just my band's way of reminding me who's the boss.

Perhaps you are eating to fast. With my last fill I now have to give myself a full 30 minutes to eat a meal! It really gets long sometimes, but it is not worth messing my insides up.

I get food stuck alot too. i cant eat without Water beside me...but usually it is due to me a. eating too fast or b. not chewing enough...usually this occurs when i am not concentrating on my eating (ie absentminded snacking) I hope it all settles down for you soo.

by the way Welcome to LBT

I was told not to drink with my meals but to wait an hour after. So I try to drink alot of Water before to help wet the way for food. Also is coffee bad for the band. My doctor says not have it. Near impossible! I have heard other people talking about their morning cup so is itijust my doctor?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
