weight gain in hospital

Recommended Posts

So when i checked in day of surgery,3 days ago, i weighed 245. When i left the hospital today i weighed 251...gained weight from iv Fluid i guess...I'm discouraged because I'm reading other peoples posts who have already lost 10+ pounds just a few days post op....im heavier than when i went in! Anyone else go through this and how long did it take you to start seeing real results?

Don't worry, most of us come home heavier. You are right it's because of the IV fluids and our body's just went through major trauma! I mean when I came home my stomach was HUGE!

I didn't start weighing myself until about a week and a half out. Be patient and kind to yourself right now!

Take care,

Laura

Did you eat the nurse? One unlucky nurse walked next to me and she lost her hand ala Hannibal style. But remember you were pumped with liquid and some ppl hold Water more then others. It'll go down super fast! Trust me!

I'm told to drink a lot of Water and keep walking around. That IV Fluid weight will go away quick. :) Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
