So will i ever be able to eat that again?

I guess I'm asking about anything...from hamburgers to tacos from fries to pie....anything?? An what does dumping have to do with all over it?? I mean I know I won't be able to eat the amount of those things I used to eat but???? Can someone pls explain to me?? Thanks

From what people who visited our support group said, it's different for everyone. Some say they can eat anything that they ate before surgery, just in smaller amounts. Others find they can't tolerate some foods that they love.

As for dumping, the nutritionist said that when you take in too much sugar at once, it causes your intestines to, well, dump!

I haven't had any friends sleeved who have had dumping syndrome...I DO have friends who had the bypass who have it! I agree with the first response...I have eaten anything & everything that I have wanted...just WAY smaller portions..& have had no issues! I do not do this all the time (before the herd attacks!!!) but if I'm out & others are having things..I enjoy a few bites & am done! My dr said I should try anything I want...if it hurts/makes me feel bad..don't do it! Works for me! Good luck on your journey!

I can eat anything, but some things don't feel good after I eat them.

For instance, I tend to avoid eating breads and potatoes because I don't like the way I feel after I eat them (bloated and full and uncomfortable). I can eat a couple of fries or a couple of spoonfuls of potatoes, but I don't eat more than that. Usually, I don't even want that.

Some foods cause me to have diarrhea, but I usually get it if I drink too much coffee without eating.

I can eat sweet stuff, but I usually only have a bite or two. I've been able to have a bite of cheesecake, for instance.

If I eat foods high in Protein, I don't have as much room for other things.

I can finally eat normal foods at 9 weeks but sometimes denser items just sit in your stomach and make you feel kind of blah afterwards. I had a burger (on a bun) with lettuce and Tomato and after 2 small bites I was done and all I could think was that it wasn't worth spending time trying to eat and that was enough to satisfy my craving. I'm finding out that while you can have the things you used to enjoy, they may not be near as enjoyable which is probably a good thing.

You have to remember too that your taste buds might change also, I used love eggs pre-surgery but now its something about the texture that its not at all appeasing to me anymore. Same thing with spaghetti.

At 5 months out I eat mostly everything that I want, but I don't want many of the things that I have loved before.

Previously I couldn't get enough chocolate, Pasta, beer, fried foods, cake, ice cream, bread, butter, rice, Cookies, candy, steak, potatoes, fries, pizza, chinese food, mac and cheese, fried chicken, casseroles, pie, pastries, muffins, rotel dip and chips, Cheetoes, waffles, pancakes, cupcakes, crab cakes, onion rings, cheese bread sticks, bar b q, milkshakes, dip, sausage, tacos, cheesecake, bacon, doughnuts, snow cones, rolls, corn dogs, Oreos, baked pretzels, gravy, holiday treats, stuffing, pina coladas, hamburgers, ......and on and on.

Now my sleeve has taught me many lessons. Some came naturally and some were not fun to experience, though I have never thrown up.

I can eat pretty much anything that I enjoyed before, just much smaller portions. The only things that really give me trouble are raw onions and citrus pulp if I try to eat a whole fruit and sugar if I eat too much.

Now I do not crave sugar any more. I actually will pass it up without any cravings, with no feeling of denial or regret. If I want something sweet, I eat it. I also know if I eat more than a few bites I will feel extremely sick. And it is an especially no fun kind of sick. The same with fried foods and high fat foods.

My weaknesses are cheese and crunchy carbs like crackers, so I try to keep better choices in my cabinet, such as Goldfish crackers or healthier versions of crackers that have whole grains and nuts. (Usually I get them from Whole Foods). I still eat a little bit of bread, rice and Pasta upon occasion, but not much. And it is great because I don't really want to eat more than a little bit.

I also regularly enjoy red wine, but I gave up beer, which I thought was going to be really difficult because I LOVED beer. Loved.

I eat out a lot. Many, many times a week. But now I am smart about choices. I eat fresh Vietnamese spring rolls, salads, grilled fish, sashimi, edamame, roasted or steamed veggies, baked chicken, grilled seafood, etc. If I do indulge, my sleeve only allows just so much, so it requires little effort on my part. I just make sure to eat enough Protein with whatever else I am enjoying.

I have explored some foods to see what happened. For example I got an ice cream sundae with hot fudge and nuts. After the third bite I knew I was done, but I ate two more and was very sorry. Now I opt for low fat or sugar free options at the self serve yogurt places. I eat more Soups, more fish, more vegetables, and I actually WANT to eat these things.

For someone whose life was focused on foods, especially unhealthy ones, and who used food to reduce stress, to soothe, to ease boredom, for flavor, for control, it is almost unbelievable, a miracle...that I am no longer a slave to huge portions, fat and sugar. Don't get me wrong, I love food. I am a foodie. A food snob. But this life is so far beyond anything that I could have possibly imagined.

I have 30 lbs+ to go and I hope to get to my goal. At only 5 months out, I am not feeling as if I'm in a race anymore.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive).
