Pear shaped that's me! My hips and arse ain't moving...

My name is Tamara and I am a slow loser

LMAO! My doc thinks I am on target and that is all that matters. We are on the sleeve forum not the bypass forum! I don't know why there is a belief that we are slow! The sleeve produces slower results. Not everyone will get to goal in 6 months and I be damned to feel like a failure! I had to step away from the forum to regroup and realize that I am an individual. This journey is different for us all.

We GOT this!!!! Hail to the "slow" losers!!!!

You are welcome. I think us "slow" losers shy away for many reasons, sad, but true. I think there are more of us than we probably realize. My surgeon reminded me of the stats, 70% of excess weight in the first 12-18 months and it could take up to 2 years to reach goal. I hope it doesn't take me two years , but it is still faster than my year of nutritional planning and working out with a 15lb loss that I gained back on vacation. I am so thankful for my sleeve whether it takes me 12-24 months to reach goal!

Don't worry, you will get to where you want. It will take its time. Not everyone will lose the same way.

Oh, it has been 15 months since my surgery and I still have some weight to lose. I know it will come off eventually. You have come so far, so try not to get discouraged.

Thanks for posting. I have been on a 3 week stall. Hanging out at 199.5. It's like my body said, "hey, you are in onederland...we'll hang here for a while :-/ I see people losing twice as fast as me at the same starting BMI...all i can do is shrug and go on my own journey. I agree those of us who are losing slower simply aren't as vocal as those losing mega-lbs every week it's nice to hear i am not alone.

I totally feel ya, girl! I'm 6 weeks post op and only have lost 28 lbs. I'm not really sure why I say "only 28 lbs" when that's a lot! Couldn't have done with without the sleeve. Point of the matter is that I compare myself to the other weight loss numbers on the forum and get discouraged. I realized I'm an individual, and though my weight loss has been slow, it's been very steady. I haven't had complications, my incisions look great, and I haven't been this weight in a while! Yay for the sleeve! Don't compare yourself with others, do your thang n focus on YOUR weight loss.

On another note, slow weight loss is good for skin elasticity :)

I am fairly slow too- 32 pounds in 6 weeks. But I am ok with that because I don't want loose ad saggy skin!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
